you remove the signal wire from the transfer case to the computer telling it the transfer case is in low range. so the elsd is still engaged in low range when it would otherwise be disabled. itll brake the spinning wheel to move power to the other side and continue to move you along. there are several videos and threads you can search on here.

I don't believe this is the case (8.0" vs 8.4" is not relevant), from what I've read, short of going to an SAS swap the 09 and up 4x4 OffRoad (ATrac) system is looking like the best thing going, especially for a all around off road capable vehicle that still operates well on road.

thats like saying a ford 8.8 does the same job as a 9.0.. which is completely wrong. why would 8.0vs8.4 not be relevant?

The 8.4" diff is stronger than the offroad's 8.0" elocker diff and while a-trac is cool and definately an improvement over nothing, dual selectable lockers (like ARB airlockers) are WAY better imo.

    And David K in

IIRC the offroad gets some extra skid plates too. I will look around I had a list of include vs not when I bought my truck

that would be pretty sweet. i dont seem to think its really all that much though... skid plates, atrac, wheels and tires, hood, bumper, mirrors and door handles and the 8.0 axle with the locker.

there are certainly more parts for the 8.0 that ive found just doing a quick search... but as mentioned before, you gonna pay!!

I think we are in agreement, I basically said the Off Road is way better than a stock SR5, but for more strength the SR5 with selectable lockers is "stronger" and more capable (obviously you gotta pay to play )

Get the best stock truck for what you'll be doing with it. It'll be better and cheaper for you in the long run
