My 19 foot Boston Whaler fueled and loaded and trailer are closer to 4,500 pounds. I have no difficulty towing the boat cross country or pulling the boat up a ramp. I generally do not even bother to use 4WD. I have LSD and TRAC and HSA. Just put your foot on the go pedal and it will not have a problem. If the ramp is especially steep or slippery then you can use 4WD. It will not hurt the truck or the 4WD system for short use on paved surfaces, especially when they are slippery. It will not hurt the truck. Only once I can recall, on a very steep and poorly maintained ramp, I got the trailer wheels caught on the end of the paved section. I used 4WD and low range with the rear locker activated to pull the boat out of whatever hole the trailer got into. Easy.

Is yours a 4-cylinder or 6-cyclinder? Automatic or manual trans? World of difference between a 2.7L MT and 4.0L auto when trying to start w/ a load on a steep-ish slope.

Just dropping back in to thank you guys for your suggestions. Wheel chocks and 4lo was the trick, no problems whatsoever.
