    I was told that when I put 2016 wheels and tires on my 2015 Tacoma that I would need to go to Toyota dealer to get the TPMS reset. I changed out the wheels today and the TPMS worked fine, light never came on. Just like to know why. I fully expected the light to come on!!IMGP0017.jpg

    Did you move the TPMS from your 2015 wheel over ?

    It might take a few days of driving. If there new tpms to the truck the light will come on.

    No, my original were steel wheels, knew they would not work. The 2016 wheels and tires came with the tpms. Seems to me it would not take a few days, doesn't the system check each time you drive the vehicle?

    System is slow and if you still have air in your original steel and threw them into the truck on the way home it doesn't know if the wheels are on or off. You probably have the old set in the garage so everyday it's still grabbing the signal when you start up in the morning and come home at night.

    Back in August I switched to OEM 16's with new tpms and it took a few days for the light to come on. The local dealer ship charged me 65.00$. To Scan the new sensors.

    That's good to know. I'm not a regular customer at a local tire shop, I'm always getting take Offs. Ha! I'll keep that in mind. Thanks.

    The TPMS is not constantly checked like most people might think. Mine didn't come on until like a week later. but the sensors have a serial number so what the dealer does is they enter those numbers into the ECU and thats how the ECU keeps track. Now the other issue is that the serial is on a sticker on the sensors, inside where the air is. so they have to remove the tires to get the serial number. In other words you might get charged more than you might think.

    They can "sniff" the sensors and dump the info into the OBDII port without removing them. Very easy to do. Takes less than 10 minutes. Any good tire shop has the scan tool to do this. I know Tire Discounters does and they've programmed sensors for me for free before.

    Thats great news so I can stop at any major tire shop to get this done (No tire discounter here but there is a Goodyear shop.), sorry I don't know what the OBDII port is.(unless thats the stem.}

    Your welcome. They were able to scan mine without removing the tires. But like sep1911 said they might try to tell you that the tires need to be removed. It wasn't necessary for mine and that's why I went to the dealer were I no the tech. I've had no problems. Your truck is looking good!

    Thanks JD, I went to two dealers and a couple of shops today. Shops could not do it, first Toyota dealer said he wasn't sure it would work because the 15 and 16 sensors are different but he would try it, second Toyota dealer said no problem, he would get the number off each sensor and program into the ECU, but he said he does have to break down the tire to get the number, set up to do it next Thursday. This is really becoming a pain (mentally and financially), hopefully it will work! I also hear somewhere that the scanning tool used by most shops will not work because Toyota has not released the codes for 2016 models?

    Some people don't run sensors when changing wheel's. They get use too the light in the dash blinking and staying on. That's another option. And wait awhile and go back in a few months and see if they can scan them. You wouldn't happen to have 2016 alloy 16" wheels from the off road package 4 sale.
