Question for firefighters

That smell that all you bad ass smoke eaters love is carcinogenic I.E. causes cancer...as mentioned above. Keep it at the station and away from your loved ones.

not like i sit there with my face mushed up against my turn out gear..it just smells good when you go on shify in the am...puts a smile on my face.

texting a driving...i know better. i was doing 15 on an isolated dirt road so i figured what the hell...

 

When I have to ship out to a different station or time swap it goes in the tool box. Never goes in my truck.

I mean REALLY?

 

No one ever gets to wear my gear..even when my gear has been through the extractor..I don't even let me daughter play with my black-used-to-be-yellow helmet..(I do take that home because it's my pride and we have a game here at the station where we break locks to get to other's helmets) I agree with MurfsTacoma 100% on leaving it at the station (not the 'bad ass smoke eaters' part, I'm sure all the guys here are aware of this and care about their health and wear their SCBA's) ...but not every station has a locker for everyone or other safe place to keep their gear...I understand that some firefighters respond in their POV's...so back to the point and original question...what are your thoughts OP? Tool box? locking bed cover? these are two great ideas...

 

Talk about a tough crowd...smoke eater...dragon slayer...was just throwing out some humor. Next time Ill be a little more sensitive maybe needle fairy or road nurses. Just trying to look out for others. P.S. I'm on your side, I work as a FF/ medic.

not trying to jack this thread. but im at the fire academy now getting my NPQ1. and im clostrophobic (spelling?) wearing the SCBA and the mask doesnt bother me at all. i can wear it all day (have before). but we did the maze with the blacked out masks and all and I started crawling through this truss system and i got stuck. and I panicked. bad. Everyone says dont panic but do you guys have any tips or something besides "dont panic" ?

I guess I was worried about that back in the academy...been through it many times..m..and never panicked..just closing my eyes and lying down in my stomach and counting/breathing slowly...that or thinking of my kid or other happy moment...it helps me...there were secret doors in the maze...so the instructors would open one at any time and tie your scba with a wire..then if you had wire cutters you would cut it and if you didnt keep them in your turn outs you had to find another way to get yourself out....ive been through a getting stuck situation and thsts what I did for a few seconds before growing some balls grabbing the tools i keep in my pockets and finally getting mysef unstuck...

 

ps..blindfolded confined space traning is one of my favorite....especially if the maze is hard with drops... spaces you have to remove your scba from your back and push it in front of you...knock down walls..freaking getting stuck randomly and finding yourself stuck and having to locate the issue...i love it.

Just practice ask a instructor to talk you through it once or twice.

I would like to have a tool box but I will most likely end up with a heavy duty lockable Rubbermaid container. As far as leaving it at the station, it's a volunteer unit and so there is minimal space. Doesn't look to be an option.

 

x2 I always left it at the station.. I had a cap on the back of the truck at the time so if I ever needed to take it for some reason I just threw it back there and locked it if I needed to leave it. and it is true... chicks dig it.

yea they had to coach me through it the time I froze. i did it again the next day and had a little trouble but i got through it. i geuss your right i just have to suck it up and keep doing it until get over it lol

 

I have a bag for my gear but I don't use it, with my turnouts and my brush gear it all doesn't fit, plus I like to hang my stuff in our wash room so it can dry properly. When I get a page I just throw my bottoms on and grab my top and helmet and just jump in my truck
