I will keep the '02 until the keys go into my granddaughters hands ;) (she is 5 ) it may actually have 100,000 by then :p....With the re-frame warranty she will still have a great ride and in that time frame I can just ad to the "stable";finally find a 3rd or 4th gen. 4-Runner or a quad cab ..Taco or Tundra......!

I like the "Feel" of my '02 and considering it WAS driven by all 4 in my family and survived ( only rattle disappeared after the re-frame).....Definetly a keeper....

I'll just keep upgrading Momma's rides with newer Camry's, the best of both worlds....plus they don't even "break in" until after 100k...

I like both gen's. I love my beat up 02 DC. I like that its pretty compact even tho it can haul 5 people and our camping gear up the mountains. It's a fun vehicle to drive. Does it have some problems, yes but its a good ol truck.

the only reason i would get rid of my first gen taco for a newer one is the fact that they mated the 2.7L to a six speed transmission which would be incredible when it comes to putting the truck to work. i have tow with my 04 taco and am happy with it for a 2.7L four banger.

I sure like the plastic bed and bed rails of the second gen but then I was told that the second gens don't have direct mechanical steering but instead had fly-by-wire. That made the gen 1's a bit more valuable for me.

I don't know about the early gen 1's but the late gen 1's are simply not easy enough to work on. I base this on the fact that I could remove the motor from an older VW bug or bus in less than an hour using only a few hand tools and a milk crate.

In my not so humble opinion, things in general are going the wrong way. If your vehicle breaks down today in an isolated place - most people are screwed. Today, it takes a computer, a brain surgeon and half your bank account to change a spark plug.
