As a quick background, two things:

    1) I purchased a used 2005 Toyota Tacoma. Here is the background:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/guidance-needed-for-recently-purchased-2005-tacoma.444821/

    2) I confess to knowing pretty much nothing which should be painfully clear after I post the question below. On the other hand, I am learning -- and inspired by the trucks here!

So here is my question. My 2005 Tacoma (which will be used for light-off road and camping) has two electrical outlets in the dash. The one to the left actually has a lighter that plugs into it and the other appears to be a simple power plug (a technical term, I know).

Anyone have insights on how they use their cigarette lighter? Can I just plug in a USB charger into that? I was planning to have one USB in the lighter so that I can power my portable GPS. The other I was going to put in a USB to power an iPhone.

Does this make sense? Any other advice on what to do with that cigarette lighter? I really don't see myself smoking ... :)
