Just installed my new Softopper on my '16 DCSB and I really like it. Going from a Jeep(w/ a Softopper) to my Taco it just feels right. After the install I have about a 4" gap between the cab and the top and I'm curious to know what others have after installing it. I'm not bothered by it unless others have a 2" gap or something at which point I'll go adjust it a bit. Thanks in advance.

Mine is about 4 inches from the cab as well.

Any pics? I've been thinking about a softopper, but want it to be easily removed if I need to haul something large. Is it quick to set up and take down?

Mine is installed only for road trips. It takes about 15 minutes to install and a little less to remove. It can be done by yourself but with two people it is very easy.

Also a bit curious about this. I had a bestop on an old Ranger that I really enjoyed for the price. Would consider doing something similar again.

I never compared the two. I have some previous experience w/ Softopper w/ my old Jeep and they've treated me right on a few occasions. In my experience w/ them the customer service has been top notch. They're just up the way from me in Boulder and, since they make a good product, I like to support small local business when I can.

With that being said, I did look at Bestop when I was shopping for my Jeep top and I just didn't like the look of the side window as I thought it was to big. That's how I ended up w/ Softopper originally.

Thanks for the reply. I really like the look of the top and wanted to see what gap other folks have after the install.

Agreed, initial install was quick and simple. I ran into no issues at all and was done in under an hour. I can see where taking it off and putting it back on would be very quick and easy.

Similar distance from the cab for me. Once it's installed, it's fairly easy to loosen the clamps and shuffle the rails up a bit.
I went with the softopper over the besttop because of the lack of side windows/the ease of rolling up the side fabric, and the tan color option.

I didn't like the gap either. I folded it up and saw I could move it forward over an inch without it hitting, so I did and the gap is closer to 2 inches. The instructions show the rails pretty much flush with the back of the front of the bed, but mine is now in the middle of the front of the bed, if that makes sense. I have an access cab/long bed, so that may not work for you. I went with the softopper because of the recent group buy.

I went ahead and moved it up a little bit to close the gap some and I like the look a lot better. Here are some pics of the top installed.

Thanks. Tires are Toyo Open Country R/Ts(285/70r17) and the lift is the Toytec Boss 2.0.

I had XPel (paint protection film) applied to that upper portion of the tailgate the softopper contacts.
Along w/ protecting from the fabric contact, it also prevents abrasions/scratches from sandy/dirty hands closing the tailgate, highly recommended.

    No prob!

It'll cost around $65-90. I'd imagine any 'clear bra' type paint protection film will work.

This is my opinion only. I think the Softopper is easier to fold up. You don't have to remove the sides to fold it up like the Bestop. Also, the Softopper doesn't have windows in the side panels. I like the look of no windows better.
