I just bought my 2019 taco and I am continually surprised how shitty the speakers are. My ‘03 Jeep has better sound.

They are Cerwin-Vega V465C Midbass woofers. They come as a kit with crossovers and tweeters but I didn’t find the truck needed more tweet. Built really well, And have a good sensitivity and power rating. I used four of Them one on each door and they fit perfectly with the adapters. The stock head unit powers them better than the stock ones by far.

A lot, I bought some from ebay that were like $200 total. Kickers with 2 tweeters each. They’re a whole lot better than the stock one.

Did the same with RF speakers and Kicker tweeters. Also added a small RF sub/box and RF amp and some sound deadening for the doors and back wall.

Not bad for a budget set up. Took a day to complete the install.

I really want to add an RF sub, but I have an AC and am looking into getting a small sub for under the seat. Not ideal, but I'm still wanting a little bit more base.

I bought the tiny RF 10” enclosure with sub. It barely fits behind the back seat with the plastic cubby removed. Not ideal but then again trucks are not ideal for big subwoofer boxes. The bass isn’t great, but it’s much better than without a sub.

Not directly but I'm told there are easy options out there.

@Rottencotton, door speaker upgrades are totally worth it and especially so with the Subarue tweeters that don't balance with the muddy OEM paper cones. Even doing the cheap Kicker CS speakers (the "$250 sound upgrade" thread) greatly improved the quality of my stock Entune system for the rock-focused stuff I listen to.

Just know it's not going to add bass and will be harsh from the get-go until they break in and smooth out the highs to match the mids/lows. You also don't want to aim too high quality of speaker because it takes a lot more to drive them properly. If you plan to do an amp then have at it but lower-mid tier speakers seem to work very well with the OEM head unit.

I have the JBL factory unit with an aftermarket headunit. So it sounds okay. But I'm looking for a bit more clarity

I am trying to decide if I should upgrade the package to the JBL speakers. If I get stock Etune sound system with the 2019 Sport what would I need to spend to get to the quality of the JBL option?

    Thanks!

Number 1 priority should be the head unit. I know people stray away from it due to the wire work, but its easy to do and you could learn a bit of valuable skills doing it.

Just about any aftermarket head unit will near double the power the speakers are receiving. It will remove the factory EQ that cuts low frequencies above 50% volume and it will remove the increased gain on the higher frequencies at higher volumes. In short with a head unit the stock speakers will sound better and louder than just adding aftermarket speakers to the factory unit.

I'd definitely like to do this but I worry about losing functionality of all the steering wheel controls, handsfree, backup cam, etc. I'm sure there are options to keep all this but is it as good? I definitely feel like I need more power, especially to my rear speakers.

Obviously I'm biased given the thread I have on the topic, but even this morning over 2 years after the install, I found myself smiling with the stereo cranked thinking about how great those "cheap" speakers sound :) It's a cheap mod with a big impact imho

You can go as advanced as you want w/ amps, subs, components, etc., but for the small cab of our trucks those speakers more than fill it up and sound great. Kickers FTW, though I'm sure there are other similar.

I replaced my head unit with a Kenwood for wireless carplay. Then sound deadened the entire cab (minus the roof) and could tell a small difference in sound. Then I went and swapped out all 4 door speakers with the Kicker CS models and ran them off a cheap Planet Audio amp and it sounds night and day different. I also just scored a JL microsub on ebay so it will be going in next week hopefully. Well worth the money spent on the improved sound.

I picked up a Kenwood DMX905s and and a Maestro RR unit with all the connections....no splicing, retained all steering wheel controls, then hooked up a front camera. It supports Android Auto and that other crap. No splicing!

EDIT: I have added the tweeters but yet to upgrade further. I will likely just upgrade the door speakers some day. Everything works great!
