Don't get all pissy Chris. Half the fun of this forum is all the random bullshit and badgering. You always get some gems of knowledge from the threads you just have to dig through the crap to get them :D

Because no cop will ask you to pop your hood unless you're doing some crazy stuff that would cause you to be pulled over. Like major speeding or some really crazy shit. You're truck doesn't scream ricer.

The typical 10 over the speed limit wont get you a "pop your hood" request.

So that's why I'm assuming you're planning on being crazy.

But really I'm just trolling this thread because I saw something silly.

you'll be fine, long as you're not street racing.

Don't worry about your CAI. Non resident vehicles don't have to comply with CA laws, ie you can have window tint, no front plate.etc.

You need to catch up on current CARB laws or your going to have a very rude awakening during CA visual inspection

Sure. The fact that he is not a resident, not establishing employment or residency in the state exempts him from following the vehicle code here. Feel free to cite CVC sections to refute that.

The actual issue is simply that the aftermarket companies have not paid the ransom to CARB for a cute little sticker. Nothing on your intake does a damn thing to affect exhaust quality and CA does not even sniff your tail pipe during inspection any more. It is pure fkn ransom that needs to be paid to CARB and most companies have stopped paying the ransom because they can't make any money after paying $100k to get the certification.

My friend earlier in the thread helped educate my ignorant ass on why it would be an issue for the OP and now all is right in the world of me. I choose to live in a free state so fuck an inspection, whatever that is.

Alright buddy... You go buy a CAI without a CARB sticker on it ( if you can find a retailer to sell it or ship it to CA anymore ) for your 2015 Tacoma and pull into an inspection bay after January 2015 and you have fun with that visual inspection. Have fun surfing the net to find the only CAI that is now CARB compliant for a second gen Tacoma and have fun paying $450 for it to cover the cost of that CARB sticker.

Yes true, it is only because Airraid and TRD paid the ransom to get those exact part #'s certified and only those part #'s because they have to pay the CARB ransom for each product they want certified. It has absolutely nothing to do with exhaust quality output because of the product...it's a fkn intake. You could go to Pepboys and buy a DIY ricer CAI kit and install it on your truck and pass a smog sniff test easily by a mile but simply because that company did not pay the CARB ransom you can't have it. Before Jan 2015 when the sniff stopped and it turned into pure ODBII and full visual inspection you could use a paper towel roll with a panty hose over it as an intake and pass smog.

Call K&N and their tech guys will happily tell you their opinions of the CARB certification BS. They told me all about it when I was calling them from the inspection bay being failed because of my intake that was perfectly fine since 2005. Anyone in the intake or exhaust biz will happily tell you their opinion of this crap...call Magnaflow and ask them why after getting their 2nd gen 4 cyl header, cats and y pipe CARB certified they realized they threw that money away and will never recoup it on sales and then ask them why they will never pay the ransom to get the same parts for the 6 cyl CARB certified in CA they could care less if they ever sell a damn thing in CA at this point. Stop by your favorite exhaust shop and have them pull up the CARB site for your second gen Tacoma and show you how not a single aftermarket header or cat is now allowable etc etc etc....shits changed boys.
