Also, note the torque value that is embossed on the bottom of the cartridge. 25N-m (19ft-lb), I believe? If you go over that, it will be very hard to remove the next time. The O ring pressure and slight contact with the cartridge flange is all that is needed.

If it takes more than a standard 3/8in ratchet to remove the cartridge, it was over-torqued previously.

Just a very light coating ... enough to let in slide in and create an initial leak-proof seal.

19ft-lbs on the canister will put you right about here (metal tab to canister tab relationship). I don't even torque it anymore, knowing around where it needs to end up. It's the oring that seals, not the tightness of the threads.

Here's also a zoomed in image of where the large canister oring goes.

At some point get the Motivx wrench/tool ... grabs at the strongest point of the housing. Also I keep a spare filter housing (plastic, not the Lexus metal one that has a part number I cannot think of right now). If you break the plastic one during oil change you would appreciate having the spare ready.

We are training you just fine!:spending:

The Motivx tool fits tightly enough on the housing that it may not remove easily ... like a vacuum has formed. Just tap the side of the tool a few times and it should release the tool.
