My truck will be here in a couple of weeks and I was just looking at the buyer's sheet again. The dealer I'm working with is below MSRP with me and is treating me fairly. I know this because I'm 60 years old and to my own detriment (and pocket book) have bought scores of new cars over the decades.

I just noticed this on the cost sheet:

    TOYOGUARD Platinum

Two Synthetic Oil Changes including Oil Filter Changes at any Toyota Dealer, Four Tire Rotations,, Roadside Assistance, Rental Car Assistance,, Exterior Paint Sealant, Interior Protector $699

I also just noticed this morning that Toyota (the company) is providing free maintenance for two years.....so..... WTF? It doesn't include the paint sealer or interior treatment, but appears to cover the rest. And I've watched dealerships apply those exterior and interior treatments. 30 minutes with a spray bottle and a half-assed application. Or, is that stuff done during the Port Installed Options (PIO) phase of delivery?

I'm writing to the dealership telling them to scratch that line item off the buyer's sheet. What do you think they're going to say?

    Thanks!

If you are in the SE or Gulf States regions, you may be out of luck.

And you may hear 'you signed,, we can't change'.

But yea, ask and argue. I'd be willing to give up all of it. Both for the 700 and to leave my truck alone.

Folks who are loving the 'free' oil changes/rotations are paying for them in the cost of the vehicle, so I'm thinking your line item may be for the paint / fabric work.

    Good luck.

Yeah, this dealer is subject to the "southeast toyota distribution mafia" bullshit. That stuff is comical, actually. If you see a Monroney sticker on the vehicle, You'll see Toyota's MSRP and then the southeast distributor MSRP that is thousands above Toyota's. I'm a bit below Toyota's MSRP because I've been going back and forth with the dealership for months on my trade and the bottom line. You're probably right and I'm going to have to swallow that part. At this point, I'll do it because it's the only BS markup I see.

Southeast Toyota region here. I've been down that road and the dealer said that wasn't removable. Times were better then and I had not made the deal yet so the dealer discounted the price somewhat to make the deal.

Is it on the window sticker? It’s not coming off. They discounted below MSRP so you got that going for you.

doesn't hurt to ask, but I think they will tell you to go piss up a rope. If you are getting this below MSRP, they have to make money somewhere,,,, especially when there's people lining up to pay at, or well over, MSRP.

So the dealer just called me and said they can't take it off....southeast toyota mafia...... Anyway, the good news is that this "package" has four years of "free" maintenance (yes, he actually said that, then I laughed) (Toyota's 2 + Toyoguard platinum). I guess I can overlook that BS since they were otherwise fair with me on the Out The Door (OTD) price. The maintenance is probably only at the regular service intervals, so a freak like me who changes their oil at around 1,000 miles on a new vehicle is probably buying that outside of the maintenance plan.

honestly? If you are below MSRP and only have one BS adder like that for $700, you are still doing pretty good in today's terms.

Some people are required to pay a $5000 or $10000 premium to work with a particular dealer. Take what you can get these days for higher-demand vehicles. Even Corollas vanish off the lot almost as soon as they land (or even before they land).

Great points. I just called him and said "let's make a deal". LOL. I told him I'd buy one of the cheaper extended warranties they offer if he removed the ToyoGuard shit. I do my own maintenance anyway and don't like other folks working on my vehicles. He's mulling that over.

Because that $699 is nearly all profit and now he's trying to find another hole to stick it in. Start to get some online warranty quotes, because he's got his magical calculator out, doing some dealer-math. Search here, there's a recommended Toyota dealer and person.

Search the extended warranty thread (link below) I started not too long ago.
You can get a toyota platinum zero deductible 7yr/125k for about $1250.

Toyoguard platinum is "optional" if you read the fine print.
I too had no luck getting my dealer to remove it.
It's a class action lawsuit waiting to happen imo.

the toyota window sticker has been removed and replaced with a SET window sticker that will include toyoguard and port add ons.

My first toyota was a 1981 4x4 truck. My 2023 pro will likely be the last toyota I buy new.
The forced adds are something I will not be able to bring myself to accept again.

This is his email. He is very responsive and was easy to deal with in my case:

I'm in the Southeast region and when I was shopping for a Tacoma last year, I received an out the door quote from a salesperson that did not include ToyoGuard. I didn't buy it then. Several weeks later, a different salesperson from the same dealership contacted me and quoted me a price that included ToyoGuard and supposedly it was mandatory. I pointed out that I received a quote without it before and the second salesperson disappeared. Weeks later I was contacted by the first salesperson again, and again the quote did not include ToyoGuard. I bought it and did not pay for ToyoGuard.

He just sent me a cost sheet showing a $699 reduction in the price of the truck in return for my promise to buy their cheaper warranty. Thanks - I saw the posts on buying the warranty direct elsewhere. He couldn't remove the item from the sticker, so he did the same thing really and just shaved $699 from the truck, which means I still get the Toyoguard coverage. I've bought many vehicles....there's always some $600 version that buys you two extra years on the factory warranty with $100 deductible. I'll carry through on that for him. I gotta say, I like this dealer.
