After the covered repair at 18K, how many miles, how many problems in the last 5 years?

Anyone who has had bad experiences with a brand is going to leave a bad taste in his mouth for a long while regardless of the brand reputation because it happen to you in the past it will always haunt you. However the odd are in your favor that a Toyota will have a catastrophic failure that requires warranty passed 50,000 miles on your powertrain. Most people consider owning a BMW out of warranty to be crazy but here I am with a 2015 X5 I’ve had since new and with regular oil maintenance it is still on the road with zero issues.
because it happened to you you will always think it will happen to you again and that’s how and why the finance team at dealerships make their $$$

Yep. Had a Saturn throw a rod at 85k miles. Won't buy another GM product.

I'm not sure I'm reading this right?

We've had three Toyotas, my 4runner went to 240k before I sold it, my wife's Rav4 made it 140k before getting rear ended, and my Taco has almost 100k. All trouble free but for maintenance and wear items.

maybe my wording was confusing but I’m just saying it’s highly unlikely a Toyota car will go bad on you.

I'll go with less likely in general. And the older it is the less likely.

The newer it is it becomes more likely. Maybe not horrid but not as good as the past.

And when it does need repair, way more costly. Electronics, plastics and tight packaging make for a horror show with repairs

Thanks, yes like @Clearwater Bill Id go with less likely. A 2025 Toyota may not necessarily match the reliability I’ve had with 2002, 2012, and 2017 model Toyotas. Though my 2017 has a lot of electronic gadgetry that's been great so far.

Depends on who the extended warranty is with. If you trade in, 1. they won't give you more money, 2. it won't transfer (the contract is with you), 3. you can almost always cancel it and get the pro-rated balance returned (minus fees).

Some extended warranties may be transferred if you sell it directly vice trade.

You guys realize the current tech that is in your Tacoma is old. Like 10+ years old. Most luxury cars have had them including my BMW. My 2015 BMW X5 is 10 years old and all of the electronics including the digital dash is still working as intended.

I owned a BMW. Fun car, but not the best beacon of reliability you could present. lol.

just pointing out that more potential points of failure increases the potential for issues. Will that be true relative to past Toyota generations? Who knows. Time will tell. You can’t necessarily expect the reliability of simpler vehicles will apply to far more complex vehicles.
