I would love to get new tires and wheels for my '20 TRD Sport but I'm totally green when it comes to understanding this stuff.
I really want the Toyo A/T 3 tires with the Summit Offroad Dakar 17" wheels. I understand the basics like my rim size being 17, "P265/65R17" (what my tire says).

Can anyone break this down for me a little further so I can verify these will fit and how to comprehend all the specs?

    The A/T 3 has a "P" before the "265/65R17" and the A/T2 doesn't, what does that "P" stand for?
The Dakar wheel says 9", but the tire says a range of 7.5-8.0-9.5, does that technically mean it will fit?

    Hi Caitlyn,

The only difference between a Metric tire and a P-Metric Tire is how they calculate how much weight the tire can hold. P-Meric tires typically have a lower load rating.

Okay. You would want a tire that would hold more weight, right? I feel like that's a dumb question to ask...

Not a dumb question. The tire and wheel combo you want would work fine on your truck. You could put a stronger (heavier) tire on if you want but there would be some drawbacks:

    1. the more layers, or plys, the heavier the tire. This will have a negative impact on fuel economy and you will notice a power loss due to the weight.

    2. the ride will be more jarring because of the heavier and stiffer tires

Some people elect to run these heavier type of tires (8 or 10 ply) because they do a lot of off-roading or they cannot get the tire they want in a 6 ply.

Okay. Thank you for the clarification because it's a bit intimidating.
I don't think I want a stronger tire because my Tacoma is my daily driver and I really don't offroad where I would need a tire like that yet ha. Maybe when I ware them out I'll consider it.

The Discount Tire shops that are local to me are fantastic to work with. I’d give them a call if I were you. They also price match any local or online retailers
