Question on which backspacing would be the best?

Hey guys! I had a quick question. I plan on buying a full OME lift soon(881s, sport shocks all way around and dakars in the rear with axle relocation plates) and I would like to get some new wheels too. I plan on running a 285/75/16 tire and obviously a 16 inch tire, most likely getting a 16x8 wheel(I am open to other recommendations). My question is what backspacing would be ideal when looking for new wheels with this setup. I know that I will have to do some sort of trimming like fenders, bumpers, and the pinch weld, but I would like to keep trimming to a minimum. I would like to keep rubbing to a minimum too. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    16 X 8 + 285/75/16 = 4" bs'ing

Sometimes offset can be of issue as well. (wheel's center chunk coning)
So check the fitment of the wheel prior to tire install.
And ensure that the brake caliper(s) clear the wheel's inner rim/center chunk.

Note: once a tire is installed on a wheel... neither is considered new
and can't be sold as such.

So basically once a tire is installed on a wheel... you bought it.

I have a 2.5 inch lift with the same size tire, I found that 3/4 inch spacer in the front stopped the rubbing on the frame and a little trimming on the bumper did the trick. I haven't had to do anything else, but then I'm not doing any extreme wheeling mostly bush roads, the odd fording of some shallow water and winter access when needed. If you have yet to buy the wheels then I would go with 3.5 or 3.75 inch backspacing then you don't need the spacer and follow TacoDell's advice on fitment.

I have 2 wheels i'm looking at now. The pro comps 7069 16x8 with 4 inch backspacing and the other wheel is the SCS F5 16x8 with 3.5 backspacing or 4.5 backspacing. I'm leaning towards the F5s. Let me know what you think?

If I was going to replace my rims and get rid of the spacers I would go with 3.5 inch backspacing. Be prepared to toss a lot of crap up on the sides of the truck though, but that should satisfy space issues with the UCA and any frame rubbing issues.

285/75R16 SCS f5 with tundra brakes it solved my rubbing issues on the frame and control arms but it still rubs the pinch weld area when turned and stuffed.

3.5 BS'ing is too much outboard IMO
unless the 33" tires are only abouts 10.50 width.

    A 33 X 12.50 would hit the lip of the Fr fender @ 3.50 BS'ing
    during max compression (full stuff).

Wider tires are generally more difficult to fit
and stuff fully on an 1st gen Tacoma used off road.

Street queens may get by using 3.50 BS'ing...
but off road use... is a different story.

    I ran 285/75/16 ( nominally 32.8" X 11.50" X 16" )
    16 X 8 wheel @ 4" BS'ing with no real issues.
Tho' the basic fender well clearancing still needs be done.

    A 295/75/16 ( nominally 33.8" X 11.90" X 16" )
would fair better having 3.75 BS'ing.
But more outboard... and they would hit the inner fender lip at full stuff.

In my experience a 12.50 width tire on a Tacoma (is just a bad idea)
requiring the Fr fender lip(s) be cut off (clearanced) to clear at full compression (stuff).

Wow! Thanks guys for all the great information! Does anyone know what backspacing the TRD FJ wheels like these have or if they would be a good fit with the tire size?

If anybody knows anyone that is getting rid of some TRD Trail Edition wheels like the ones above let them know i'd be interested! I would post in the wheel/tire section but it said I was suppose to have 50+ posts in order to post in that thread.
