So it's been nearly six months since I was last able to start my Tacoma.
I'm concerned about the lack on engine oil in the top of the engine, so prior to starting I was planning on disconnecting the crank shaft position sensor, and motoring the engine of the starter until the oil pressure light goes out (about 30 seconds I would think). Then waiting about a minute or so, reconnecting the sensor and then starting it.

    My question is 2 parts:

1a) Should I change the oil before starting? I use 5w-30 full synthetic and the current oil in the engine had about another 1000 miles before being due for a change.
1b) If so, should I change it before or after initial start and warm up?

    2) Should I pull the spark plugs and pour some oil down the holes the night before?

    1) Do you have any reason to suspect contamination while sitting? If everything was capped and sealed Id run it. But an oil change isn't expensive if it makes you feel better to just do it now.

    2) No.

Just check the oil level and run it. It's not a delicate flower

I'd be more worried about stagnant gas in the tank than a lubrication issue. Throw some Heet in there and give it a whirl

I wouldn't worry about it but if you want to crank it over first without it starting the simplest thing would be to pull the EFI Relay.

I'm with @b_r_o 6 months isn't that long, if you have issues with anything it would be the fuel because our shitty gas doesn't have a very long shelf life.

Yeah the fuel is something I'm a smidge concerned about.....only had about a 1/3 of a tank in.....so thinking about putting in a dose of techron before I put gas in it.

Fuel delivery does not affect oil flow

    Just start it

geeezus...unplug the crank position sensor? on what planet did this seem like a good idea or even an idea?

just start it. oil will be at the top of the engine in less than 2 seconds. There is enough residue for the start.

When installing a new/dry engine, the procedure calls for disconnecting the crank position sensor to prevent actual ignition, motoring the engine until the oil pressure light goes off, then reconnect the sensor, then starting the engine.

But it sounds like most think this is overkill for my engine that has sat six months....good to know.
