I have been looking at used camper shells for my 1999 extended cab. I found a leer that is on a 2003 tacoma local to me. Seller assures me it is made for this year and model truck, but in the photos, there appears to be a gap large enough to make me question whether this shell was indeed for a tacoma gen 1. Thoughts? Is the gap large enough to immediately know this is not a perfect fit? Can i pull a serial number on a leer to verify what truck is compatible? TIA

The cap for single cab and extended cab models are different at the front where you have circled. Ext cabs curve forward a bit.

Yea that is the one for sale, why?

I have the extended cab, same as seller. So should I not expect a Leer to fit flush to the extended cab?

Gap looks good to me :notsure:

Remember the cab moves independently of the pan on its mounts. If gap was very close the cab could hit.

looks totally normal to me. there needs to be a gap so that the cap never smashes the cab when going over a bump to fast or something.
I think the gap may be more noticeable because of the color or something. There is a gap between my cab and cap that is just under an inch.

How flush are you looking for? There should be a gap between the topper and truck cab. The gap pictured looks normal to me. I had a Leer shell that came with my 2002 Xtra cab that I gave to a friend for his 1999 Xtra cab. It fit with no problems.

I assumed flush, but sounds like that assumption was incorrect given the need for the cab to move. Thanks everyone. I should have a new shell, with pics to show off, later tonight.
