Depends on what you use the extra power for. For me, supercharger for the increase in low end torque for towing my travel trailer. Also for the taco it's been well developed by Toyota for a less fuss installation and longevity. A turbocharger has the potential for higher power output but usually they are sized on gas engines for higher rpm power gains. And for me there is no local support turbo tuning.

This is already a pole in performance forum. Several pages of back and forth pros an cons there.

It depends on what you are seeking. The turbo will give performance over a wider range of RPM with some increased MPG. The SC will give performance but not as much and not as much of an increase in MPG. You are more likely to blow the engine with the turbos because of the amount of power increase. With the turbos you also need to change the cam if you want them to work properly. Turbos are more expensive.

    Supercharger:
    PROS
    - relatively easy to install
    - instant throttle response (no spool time)
    - typically less expensive than turbos
    - Much less plumbing involved (air and oil)
    - Can be used with Common aftermarket exhaust systems and headers
    - Easier to tune
    - More reliable due to less to go wrong
    - More consistent power curve since it's directly linked to the engine.

    Cons:
    - Lack of tuning options
    - boost levels is fixed based on pulley size
    - Allegedly less efficient than turbos.
    - relatively linear power curve

    Turbos:
    PROS:
    - gives you a lot of options for both boost and tuning
    - boost can be adjusted on the fly
    - Supposedly more efficient at making boost than SC units
    - Has a steadily increasing power curve: the bigger the "bang" in the cylinder, the more it pushes the turbo and the faster the turbo spins resulting in that feeling of being "launched" after the turbos spool

    Cons:
    - LOTS of plumbing required.
    - Typically a lot of modification to the exhaust system on non-DIY kits
    - Significantly more expensive than most SC kits
    - More difficult to control if you're not used to it
    - Poor boost-throttle response without a specially designed cam

    N/A. Stay N/A.

Boost is an insatiable drug. Undeniable. SPG's go up while MPG's go down. More and more you want more. Just to feel the skinny pedal once more.

The mods won't stop. The boost won't stop. Get boost and it infects your mind. It takes over your dreams... Get a cat. It will ignore you and you'll forget all about it. Ignorance is bliss. Dont do it!

Or...... ... ... .. . Come over and I'll take your for a ride along.

The Supercharger is significantly easier and if you get the TRD S/C done through the dealership it won't void your warranty.

Superchargers are what most people on TacomaWorld will recommend.

You have two choices, the TRD Supercharger or the URD Supercharger.

TRD is roots, which gives you an insane amount of power down low. URD is centrifugal, which is more like a belt driven turbo. Both are fun and neither will leave you disappointed.

Supercharger since both have been engineered specifically for your engine and both are easier to install.

If the TRD was a twin screw design, and I didn't have a turbo, then I would be all over it. It isn't though.

That being said, my next choice, behind turbo, would be a URD MKIII.
