Question, what is this small spring for?

Been hearing a squeak on the front drivers side sometimes and everything looks fine, but then I noticed that the driver side has this random spring to nowhere that the passengers side does not have. What is this?

That is not a spring, it is a brake line. It is coiled to reduce metal fatigue from the twisting and vibration the body does from the frame.

it is the spring that follows a dark winter.

but in all seriousness maybe describe this sound youre hearing?
    when does it happen?
do you have skid plates? / other relevant aftermarket parts?

    Welcome!

There is some debate on whether or not coiling is needed. All depends who you ask.

I mean it does make sense to me.

What are the drawbacks of coiling? More pressure is needed because it’s not a straight line?

None, there is a proportioning valve, so doesn’t matter what the length or shape the line is.

From my experience, you coil for three reasons:
Increased volume in a limited space
To get more line area for heat dissipation
Expansion and contraction of the space between components

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
Pressure is pressure, straight line or around a curve. The coil would allow the brake line to flex over a longer length of brake line, brake line doesn't like to bend a lot. It will bend some, but the more it does the weaker the line becomes.

I have professional water extraction equipment and the less coils the vacum hose has, the better the suction. So I just based it off that.

Lol pressure is not pressure, especially in a hose. Longer the line the more the line can act as an accumulator of sorts because lines flex and fluid compresses a bit.
But, i don't know anything about fluids...

Thanks for answering my question. Always a good time lol. Thanks gents. As to my squeak, who knows. It only happens when I make a left turn going into a dip. And even then it’s only like 50% of the time.

    Yeah that’s what I thought.

I always try to have the vacum hose as straight as possible when using this guy at customers home.
