I've been looking at a TRD Sport AC recently and just discovered something else I didn't know about. I was reading several threads and comments about how some Tacomas have a leak around the 3rd brake light, so I decide to go check out one or two that I'm interested in after it rained heavily in the area. What I mainly noticed is that there are at least two different brake light configurations as shown in the attached photos. I know one of them (the clear one) has the addition of bed lights, and the other is simply a brake light. My questions are these... What package does the one with the bed lights come in? It is not on the TRD Sport I am looking at. Also, is there one that leaks more often than the other. I have not seen it mentioned which type (or both) may be the culprit when a leak is found. I was kinda disappointed to find out the bed light version is not STANDARD on the TRD models. Any info is much appreciated.2017-toyota-tacoma-brake.jpg 2017-toyota-tacoma.jpg

If it's a double cab, it's the clear light(no exposed screws, and prone to the leaking issues)
Access cabs have the red light(2 exposed screws)
Trim level has nothing to do with it.

Ahhh!! Thanks for that clarification, @mesojdm! That makes sense as to why I couldn't find it in a certain trim level, or as an option. I am obviously not going to learn all there is to know about these trucks until after I purchase one. Since I'm only looking at Access Cabs, I'll now assume they don't normally have the brake light leak. Thanks so much for your help!

Nope that one is tried and true, the new design is what I have and a few others I know that leaked.

To be proactive on the double cab, perhaps a really fine bead of silicone around the light housing would hardly be noticeable from a few feet away, especially if you have a canopy.

Better than a leak into the cab, and easier than removing the headliner.
