I have a 2011 SR5 4x4 Dbl cab/auto, with the towing package. Neither of the two trailers I tow have brakes, so I haven't worried about wiring a brake controller. However, I'm going to upgrade my flatbed. The new flatbed is an 18 foot tandem axle dovetail and has brakes on one axle. The bare trailer weighs 1950 pounds, it's a steel frame with 2x6 decking . I'll never haul what the trailer is capable of, but the 18 footer is only $60 more than a 16 footer would be, which is what I asked about. The company is a local one and makes a nice trailer, they would make a 16 foot as a custom order, but their standard is 18' so it can haul most cars.

Is there a power and signal pigtail under the instrument panel for a brake controller, or will I have to run the wires to the trailer connector?

If you have the towing package, there's a plug way up under the dash on the drivers side. Will have to look behind bundles of wires, like they tried to hide it.
Use the search tool, there's several threads on this with pics.

Great, thanks. I figured there must be some wiring somewhere, I'll look up those threads

If you have the plug, you can get a wiring harness that will connect to that plug and your brake controller.

Plug and play, no wiring necessary!

I ended up buying a Tekonsha Primus IQ, along with the PnP double connector cord. Took about 15 minutes to install. Sweet.

Gonna give the controller a workout this weekend, towing a car on the flatbed 160 miles:DSC00669.jpg
The car is about 2800 lb. the trailer is 1800.
