My understanding is that hydro bumps exponentially dampen the impact but are used to soften landings from jumps for the most part.

Ive heard using hydro bumps as a bandaid for the oh shit moments isnt the way you want to go and that getting quality monotube, offroad shocks like fox, king, ads, elka, will provide a much smoother ride overall.

timbren bump stops are an upgrade over stock but half the price of hydros

I noticed at the dunes I tend to bounce pretty hard - not trying to but you now it just goes that way at the dunes. Was wondering if upgraded bumpstops on top of upgraded suspension would be a good idea. Thanks.

HOLY POOP! I just saw how much they are. I don't know if I need a u-bolt flip but just for front and rears its over $500! I see people sell used ones, are those OK to reuse?

Hydro/air bump stops require occasional maintenance, have multiple failure modes and are $$$. If you need that much bottom out control then they might be worth it. For protecting your moving parts from bottom out damage on the dunes a quality rubber/foam stop will do the job well, be super durable, cost less and never need maintenance outside of replacement from FOD damage.

Timbren (and others) make bump stops for the rear that work with the factory U bolt config.

I run King 2.0 hydraulic bumps for the hard hits. When dropping off ledges it really slows down the momentum and prevents shock damage, tearing mounts off axles/body...etc.

Maybe? It can be hard to see damage to rubber if it's not severe.

Also, if you are using stock leafs, changing those to something more up to the task would do way more for vehicle and bump control than bump stops would. Bump stops are for those ooops moments when you thought it was going to be a little bump and it turned out to be a big one.

Do you get airbound or do sand dunes/desert speed stuff with your Tacoma? If not, probably not worth the investment...IMHO.

I'm not trying to get airborne, it just happens.:D But I really like going to the dunes and see myself going there multiple times a year. Along with Moab and Co once or twice a year. So, I think its worth it now just have to afford it.

You can find them used and just make sure they are rebuildable/tuning capabilities. Buy once, cry once kind of thing.

Set them up properly and they will give you a good service life.

    All of them.
Mine is shredded up there. I have atleast 10 huge cracks on my driver side support. You can always tell who runs hard and who doesn't by this.

I went with Timbren and a u bolt flip kit. It’s huge compared to the stock nub that’s on there from factory

Go to the Timbren site and it will give you some choices. I plow snow and haul trailers , so I have the standard Timbrens up front and standard in the rear. They help tremendously with the ride and handling. Because they are progressive, If the plow is off the truck and nothing in the back, truck rides like stock which is a bonus. I cant speak about the off roading benefits or the flip version.

    Stock-ish
I run wheelers superbumps front and rear. In the front they are super nice, as I never feel them even when full bottoming out. The rear of mine only being lifted an inch and on the other hand doesnt have the leverage ratio like the front ifs on the bump stop, so they are quite noticable and rebound a ton like a spring, like Vegasstunts said a few comments up. As stated any foam one will work good for 90% of the people, but if you hammer on it/wheel hard air bumps are worth the buy once cry once.
