I went with the TRD air filter and the TRD intake accelerator, the rest stock. Nice tone to go with my TRD exhaust and I didn't really lose or gain anything that my butt dyno can tell.

I put in a TRD CAI, and other than sound, I saw no measurable changes to performance. Perhaps in a laboratory setting, some small incremental performance could be measured, but simply calculating MPG based on how much gas was pumped in against the miles driven introduces a lot of variables, mostly beyond your control. Temperature comes into play as well as E content, winter vs summer gas and part of the country the gas was bought at, and even brand of gas.

OP says +2 mpg which is the largest mpg improvement I've ever seen reported based on the addition of a CAI no matter which brand. Usually people report +.25 to +.5 mpg which is within the margin of error and could vary that much with each tankful.

Just be careful to properly oil the filter when you clean it, seen issues where it wasn't done right and wasn't filtering as well. Lots of info online on KNs.

I really want the TRD air intake and exhaust. I know there really isn't any gains in performance but it's just one of those things that I'll eventually get because I want it.

Goes great with the TRD oil cap (not pictured) and the coolant cap too!

The piece in the bag REPLACES the piece on the far right, which goes in the fender well to the bottom of the filter housing. The box is the TRD air filter, which is the kind you oil. I didn't use that, I just reused my paper air filter.

I did both the TRD CAI and TRD exhaust, KDMAX Pro XT tune and its an entirely different driving truck, sounds great, not to loud but when you are WOT it sounds pretty damn good for a V6. I have had a number of muscle cars so I have a little knowledge of what sounds good. Its a nice combo, all works well with the tune. At first before the tune it maybe performed a little better, but not much however it sounded great, after the tune it even sounds better.

The +2mpg is just what ive seen over one tank of gas so its not written in stone. I used the Trip info to check it. I will say this, before the CAI my overall average fuel economy display on the dash would stay around 19 but after the CAI it stays over 20.

Sorry but it’s impossible to gain 2 MPGs with a “performance intake” At most, you will get a slightly better throttle response, well and noise. They do sound good.

Toyota did dual injection and Atkinson cycle to get about 2 mpg better than 2nd gen tacos.

From my experience, increased MPG is directly related to how much you are trying to increase MPG with your right foot.

As I understand it the ECU will adjust to such things as a bit more flow, throttling it down to the programed specs. I'm not and expert on these sort of things, but smarter people than me have articulated that. All I know for sure is I saw zero measurable mpg gain with both a TRD CAI and TRD performance exhaust.
