Correct, TRD Sport comes with hood scoop.
Idk about parts price because I've not had to do anything like that, and a family 97 4Runner that has 300,000 miles hasnt needed any of that either.

I have a CAI and exhaust. No other engine mods. The intake was on the more expensive end of CAI's, like 400, but I bought my truck with it (second owner). Flowmaster 40 with a dump for exhaust. Maybe some throttle responce and torque, but nothing I can prove.

I've heard Dodge's are high maintenance.

Problems here and there are one thing, but systemic problems that result from crappy design, engineering and/or QA/QC are the real issues to avoid.

Chrysler products tend to be "leaky" and they seem to have not been able to engineer this problem out of their designs from the 70's thru early 2000's. Don't know about newer Chrysler products though.

Fords develop leaks over time as well. Even on stupid things that other brands don't suffer from like blown oil pan gaskets...what car/truck does that? (thanks Ford!)

    Just some notes:
SR5 vs SR = 5 meant 5 speed. Sport Rallye is the SR part. They dropped the 5 when 6 speed trannies replaced 5.

2005 was the first year of the 2nd Gen. Just like 2016 was the first 3rd Gen. Wise to avoid first year models until bugs worked out. I had an '05, trust me.

The Sport only had mechanical limited slip from 2005 to 2008.

It's really up to you how much you want to spend. My 2010 Off Road 4WD DC is great!

In the 80's I had a Corolla SR5...best little car I've had. That was my first introduction to SR5.

    Good to know the history:thumbsup:

Tommy boy poped into my head when I saw, 6'9 in a tiny truck. . lol

The first year models come with the best horsepower . . . for what, selling points? because they updated the vehicle?

Say I happen to fall into enough money to buy any toyota on the market. . (which may happen sooner than later)
What do y'all suggest. here are a few details about my uses for a truck. none. . I don't need a truck at all. I want one. and I'd prefer a smaller one over a bigger one. I just recently noticed how slick the Tacoma was. I want 4 wheel drive because sooner or later I intend to use it. and for the added strength I assume they put into it. a decent v6 no 4banger please. or even a v8. but a 6 will do with a lighter truck. I'm sure I'll have some kind of boat. or 4 wheelers or some kind of toys. I can drive a stick. but I'd prefer not to being in the city. and to be higher than a car for better vision.

I will say this. I drove a Mitsubishi Raider. had I been able to test drive it over 20mph and really check the truck out I might have liked it. but it was a shady car lot and there was a poping noise when i turned to the left. and no gas in it. so I left what I had began to think was a 3800$ lemon. it was clean the a/c was cold. interior was clean. body was straight. but something didn't feel right.

It had air ride. not a fan of the truck dropping when I turn the opposite direction. I know the Tacoma has coil over shocks or struts . . which ever. not stupid air ride.

I want a daily driver that will last me some years. It's going to be adult driven 90%of the time. most of my maitence I'll do my self unless toyota does it for free when they include it with the sale. but I want to have a little fun off the payment too. I'm not getting a truck to crawl through any swamps. but a little shallow mud . . eh. yeah.

HOW DO YOU PUT A SYSTEM IN IT THOUGH. there's no room under the back seat. there's no room behind the seats or at least what I can tell. I'll have to get a console box I guess? . car audio is a hobby and I'm fighting the fact I want a cool ass little truck with not much system potential. screw it. 6x9s it is.

What's the gas milage now with these v6's being mated to 5speed trannys. I average 65-70mph. and will drive slower depending on situation. but if I have five finger death punch blasting. I'm going around the slow ones. .
All in all. Toyota has the track record to look at and the trucks look good. just gotta figure out witch trim has better durability for my tastes. hell I might get a wild hair a build one to be a street legal rocket.
But regardless. Tacoma it is. TRD Off-road short bed. access cab. something I'm going to be able to depend on when the time comes. when it's get accross this muddy field to help family feed the cows or get ( future old lady) to the hospital in record time when her water breaks. you boys have got me hooked and I don't even own one yet.

Just looked at a 2007 Toy Tacoma double cab SR5 6 cylinder for sale at a sketchy used car dealership (3rd tier?) near me. Carfax showed it was bought at auction. It had two recalls:

    1. Floor mat interference with accelerator (I remember this one from the news coverage).

    2. Rear leaf spring recall.

I figured someone would find this info helpful. Looks like minor stuff for this particular year. They want $14,500 which puts it at the high price of a fair price in my area. Makes me wonder what they bought it for at auction.

Avoid air ride. This is the kind of fluff they put on Mercedes. If it goes out, the repair bill can be up to $10,000. My Dad knows a guy who bought a used Mercedes from a used car dealer and he bought an extended warranty. One day he was going to work and noticed his car was leaning to one side on his driveway. Turns out the air ride suspension went out on one side. Long story short is that it was going to cost $10,000 to fix.

Here's the kicker...the extended warranty actually covered it! An example of these warranties actually working. Interestingly enough my dad is in the insurance business found out that the Insurance company only paid $5,000. I guess there is a lower fee insurance companies can negotiate to get 50% off of repairs.
