Hi folks! I’m in the process of lifting my 2017 off-road. I grabbed a set of 16” gunmetal SCS Ray10s and will be going with an Old Man Emu setup from Headstrong in the immediate future.

My original plan was to run 265-75-16 Load Range C Goodyear DuraTracs, but I now find myself admiring & giving serious consideration to the Falken Wildpeaks in SL Load Range. I have a few questions I was hoping some owners could answer for me.

1.) I have read some older threads about early balancing issues. Has this largely been resolved or was it never a major problem to begin with?

2.) Is there any noticeable visual differences in sidewall & tread design between the SL -vs- E Load variations??? Or are they basically the same?

3.) How have they been wearing for you?

    4.) Best place/time to buy?

Thank you, for any experience or input on these tires you can provide. Also, any pictures of these tires, especially 265-75-16 on Ray10’s, would be awesome & greatly appreciated.

You would be fine with the Falkens. Never had a problem with the SL rating. They wear somewhat fast depending on what you are doing. However the DuraTracs wear even faster. I ran 2 sets of the Falkens before switching to the Hankook RF11 AT because my the last set would not balance after 10k miles) The Hankook ride smoother and I get better mpgs going from 265/70/17 to 255/75/17. I’ve run the Falkens on both my 16” and 17” wheels.

It’s an aggressive budget AT tire that will do what you need. There are always better options out there. They worked great for me for what I needed.

A TON of people own the SCS Ray10 wheels so it should be too hard to Google Image search that one. Good luck

I have had six of the Falken in SL. I lost one to a piece of metal in the road. They have had excellent wear. I am sure I will get at least 45k out of them.

I am amazed at how well they grip the road when wet, and actually work well in the dirt and snow. If I ran more on the dirt I might consider a C or E tire but not with the highway driving I do as I am not will to suffer the MPG loss.

Ive had the Wildpeaks in SL load with 275/70R17 and now E load in 285/75R17.
The SL rode much smoother overall, obviously. However with the E loads what I have noticed is I have to run higher pressures to have better road feel. Which does stiffen the ride. To low of a pressure and they feel, wobbly at highways speeds. Like the sidewalls flexing sideways as I go down the road. I up the pressure and that all goes away.
For your size the SLs will be fine. The balance issues were probably tied to a bad batch being built. Which has since been faded out.
As with anything on the internet and reviews, if people have bad experiences they will vent more than those that have had good experiences.
Myself, they have been excellent tires for my use, my truck and the purpose that I have built it for.

I run the SL and they balanced with no problems. They ride nice enough for me. Also I think SL is the only version that is winter rated if that's a concern for you.

    Top- 265/65 17 C load
    Bottom-265/70 17 SL load

Ran the 265/65s on 2 different trucks, around 50k miles on them total. They still had 5/32" tread when I turned them in. No issues with either set so far.

I have noticed that the SLs ride a bit more plush than the C's. Don't know if it's the extra 1/2 inch of sidewall or the 2 missing plys or the combination thereof, but i do notice it. The SLs also took a hit on milage, very much due to the extra 1/2 inch of sidewall.

Fantastic traction in all conditions. I have a 2wd; still have no problems getting though a little bit of mud, snow, whatever. These tires will plow.

The AT3 had a lot of issues, they corrected and re-released as AT3W I believe, the newer ones haven't had much for issues. I have had them, ko2's and toyo at2's. The Falkens are way better than the ko2's, close but not quite the toyos. I had the e-rated on a 2018 and loved them

Tread is deeper on E load I believe, but people seem to get >50k miles typically. I am on SL's. Early for me to tell you about wear, only 10k. So far fine. I got them on Amazon at $120 each. They seemed to have gone up to around $140 commonly now.

Thanks, everybody! Your replies were a big help and I’ve decided that the Wildpeaks are the tire for me.

I have almost 44k miles on my SL AT3W's. I tow frequently and my truck is always toting around 6-800#, loaded up even moreso. I have had them rebalanced once, but I lost a stick on weight. I have noticed winter traction is not what it was when new, but I should get the 55k mile spec'd range without too much issue.

For a budget priced tire, they seem to be worth it.

My Duratracs had to be balanced every rotation, very annoying. I just swapped from C load Duratracs to SL Wildpeaks. I'll see how they last but the tech at Discount said they balanced great and he has seen a ton of issues with Duratracs as they wear the Falkens have been much better.

I would not buy again. I have balance issues with the set I bought last year and Falken refused to help because they were one size larger than stock. I’ve had them balance multiple times, including road force. Nothing helps. Two are out of round.

My next set will be something different.

I'm looking to change size from my current 265/70/17 so i'm going to see whats available and their weights. My only knock on the WP's is their weight relative to others like Coopers for example.

But i'd have no problem buying again.

    Running the wildpeaks 265/70-17 SL.

overall have been great, quiet on the streets and not too harsh of a ride. They did take a lot of weight to balance, but they were able to balance and have no vibrations.

    Still thinking about it.

    Nice looking wheels!

I just bought a set of Wildpeaks in stock size for $107 each on Amazon sale. I showed them to my son and first thing he noticed is the tread isn't very deep for a new tire. Then of course I noticed it too. No worries, the price is right.

As a side note, three of mine are made in USA and one is from Thailand.

It’s an all terrain. I think it even has one of the deeper tread depths in its class.

For all terrains tread is not as deep as a mud terrain but they still last longer due to the different compound used.

This is weird and doesn't make sense. They replaced all mine with no questions and they were out of size. Whoever you have dealing with the company isn't doing you any favors. I had to try to balance twice, after that they replaced all 4 even though only 2 were bad.

107 each is quite a bit below what you should be paying, and from Amazon, you might not have even gotten real ones...if not slightly used and cleaned up
