questions on which tire size/wheel backspacing to go with 2.5 inch lift

    I have a 2001 tacoma double cab, I am putting Bilstein 1500s all around, OME 881 coils, and Wheeler's Alcan 5-leaf pack coils on it. I am looking to have about a 2.5 inch lift when I am done.

    I was originally planning on just using my original rims with 285/75r16 at or mt tires, but than I heard that that would not work because the tires would rub on the ucas. Does anyone have any comments?

    Does anyone have any experience with this situation?
    Does anyone have any suggestions for different tire sizes that might work better? I like the idea of my new tires being bigger than stock and hope to be able to have them be wider also.

    What all needs to be done to make sure I don't have any MAJOR problems when I put all this together?

    And if the best option turns out to be getting new rims for the tires... What sizes and backspacing would I need?


    I'm sorry for all the questions I know that its a lot but I would really appreciate any help you can give me.

    I have a 2.5 inch spacer and i have no rubbing issues after i trimmed a little. i have 285 75 16

    Can't say whether 285s will rub on the UCA or not with stock alloys since I'm not running them. Seems like they should not be a problem though. Seems like your more likely to rub on the pinch weld and the frame, not the UCA.

    Regarding aftermarket rims and backspacing, the amount of bs in a given rim is dependent on how wide the rim is. For example, I'm running a 8" wide rim that has 4.5" of bs and 0 offset. I would have no problem clearing the UCA with a 285 mounted on my rims. However, a 9" wide rim with identical offset must have 5" of bs to have the same amount of clearance at the UCA.

    Rim width, rim offset and rim backspacing all contribute to where the tire ends up in the wheel well. Understanding the relationship between these three measurements will be the difference between choosing a tire/rim combo that fits and one that will create a rubbing nightmare.

    What is the stock wheel width and back spacing and lug pattern? I know I could go out and measure it myself but if someone knows it real quick of the top of their head, that would be much easier.
