Questions regarding C4 low pro bumper

    Good afternoon, I’m getting ready to purchase the C4 low pro winch bumper but can’t decide if I should go clear or an amber light bar? What are the benefits of going amber? It’s a little more expensive if I went with amber.

    Also, what do you guys recommend for a winch? Pulling capacity? Brand? Cable or synthetic?

    Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    I’d recommend a 9500lb winch with a synthetic cable it should have enough pull power to get you out of anywhere and the synthetic cable is a little safer as for the lightbar amber is better in fog

    Amber lights are ideal for foggy situations. However, you can't use them on the road, or you'll blind people. Assuming you're not in to blinding people, you'll be using these offroad. Do you foresee yourself doing a lot of late night offroading in the fog? If so, then get amber. Otherwise, clear will give you better light range.

    Or if you're in it for looks, I think amber looks pretty snazzy.

    Warn is the top of the line but also the most expensive I’ve been running a smittybilt for over a year and it’s worked perfectly

    No looks and definitely will be for off-road only. Not planning on driving on fog but weather permits.. thank you for your input!

    Copy that. I’ve seen a lot of bumpers that are running “factory55” up front. Is that an accessory for the actual winch? Some sort of cable protector?

    It’s just a fancy replacement for a winch hook lot of people run them but I’ve been running the standard hook and it’s been good enough for me

    Factor 55 makes very nice winch accessories. I'd highly recommend their 1.0 fairlead (for synthetic line only) and one of their flatlink (I prefer the E) hooks. If you watch their videos on the Factor 55 website, they do a great job of explaining their products, along with the benefits.

    perma fog went away temporarily during covid19 lol. Less traffic on the freeways. It’ll come back after phase 4 haha

    For the lightbar I don’t have to do any splicing of factory wires do I?

    On C4s website one of the options is the S8 BD lightbar.

    Nope should be able to directly connect to battery and run a wire inside the cabin

    I went with the lo pro, and pulled the M8000 off the Gen1 and rebuilt it, spooled with new synthetic.

    You should think for sure about going with synthetic. Safer, and lighter. My C4 lo pro with M8000, synthetic, and Baja Designs S8 light bar weighed in at 145 lbs. Steel cable weighs about 15 lbs. That's all a lot of weight off the nose of the truck.

    What suspension / coils you running? You'll need 650 pound plus springs. I went 700 lb coils on the Kings, and it rides and handles great.

    Awesome, Good to know. I was leaning towards cable but sounds like the majority so far are recommending synthetic.

    I’m on Kings with 650lb coils and OME leaf pack. Purchased the springs ahead of time for this reason.

    There's a ton of videos on YT about the differences... but here's some highlights

    Pros
    • Don't need gloves to handle rope
    • Rope is less dangerous if it breaks
    • Rope can be repaired in the field (splice)
    • Rope is lighter
    • Rope can have equivalent strength
    Cons
    • Rope is not as abrasion resistant
    • Rope ages poorly (UV exposure)
    • Rope has to be kept clean
    • Rope is expensive
    I'm sure there's more... but those are the basics. I personally run rope and wouldn't run cable. Regardless of what you run, keep people clear when winching and always treat it with respect. It's too easy to get lazy and people always want to stand around and watch. Again... keep people clear of the lines.
