(I have a query in to EastCoastGearSupply inquiring if I can remove my e-locker and install a TrueTrack in my rear e-locker differential housing (3rd member?). I think the answer is, "NO" but their web page for a TrueTrac for a Toyota Pickup & 4-Runner - TT 913A610 (Toyota TV6 Rear Detroit TrueTrac 913A610) seems to reference a Toyota 8" V6/Turbo/E-Locker rear end. Erik's Toyota Differential Info page seems to suggest the 8" V6/Turbo/E-Locker axle / 3rd member is identical?)

If I cannot install a TrueTrac in the rear diff housing (3rd member), will an 8.4 3rd member properly mate up with rear axle housing assembly (p/n 42110 in the illustration below)?

    Or do I need an 8.4 3rd member with a rear axle housing assembly from a 2wd and 4wd T100, '00-06 Tundra (possibly Sequoia), Tacoma non-TRD 4x4, Pre-runner, or 4x2?

When you get parts from a salvage yard, will the rear axle typically have the 3rd member and internals (e.g. open diff), and axle shafts as well?

    Thx.

I can't answer all of your questions but the 8.4" third member will not bolt up to the e-locker axle. They have different bolt patterns.

YES and absoutely not. When it comes to wrecking yards there isn’t anything typical. It truely is on a case by case basis and don’t assume that what they tell you is true. I bought a Ford explorer axle for a Jeep swap and was guaranteed certain parts came with it. When I went to pick it up some parts weren’t as promised and when I showed the email saying they were the response was well do you want it because I have a line up behind you. I took it as is after pulling the pumpkin cover to ensure it was intact.

Many wreckers these days are part of an online network and will ship stuff all over the place or to associate yards. Been a while so I can’t remember the site but you can do a search the same as the yards do. When I called the local yard I told them they had stock # abc123 in their X location. They did their inventory swap and it was local in a week but with the problems I listed above.

Not sure what you're trying to gain from a trutrac over a locker

    ???????

What are you bumping for? You have an inquiry with ECGS for information which is your best bet for information regarding parts interchangeability. You asked about wrecking yard parts which was also answered. People have done their best to answer your questions. If you have additional questions then ask them. Bumping tells me you didn’t get the answers you were looking for but it doesn’t give any indication about what you are still looking for other than you are impatient and want everyone to do your research for you.

ECGS not only has the knowledge but they want to sell you parts at a profit so they have incentive to find you the answers and make it work. Your bump was at 8:56am and your original post was at 5:27pm. Can you not wait for business hours to get ECGS’s reply?

To try to answer your question, what I'm trying to gain:
    1. Traction
    2. Beauty
    3. Knowledge / wisdom / experience
I had a TrueTrac in the back of a 1988 Toy Pickup EC with a 22RE. Loved that truck. The TrueTrac rocked in patchy ice / snow conditions on the road(s) which is where I still spend most of my time. A TrueTrac would be useful to me 99.99% of the time. My swag is that .01% of my time might find me with a wheel off the ground, or opposite wheels off the ground.

@bwawuz02's OEM+ Overlander thread about swapping in a 4th gen T4R torsen / locking center diff into his 2nd gen Taco with front and rear TrueTracs got me thinking if I could do the same with my '04 DCSB TRD OR. At first I thought all was for naught, as the 4th gen T4R diff will not mate up with the A340F auto transmission. But then I got to thinking what about a 3rd gen T4R... they used the same tranny. And while I haven't conclusively figured it out... I'm pretty sure I can take a locking center diff transfer case off an '01-02 T4R and mate up to my transmission. With TrueTracs front and rear, I would have the same setup as bwawuz02, except my center diff would be open, where as his is a Torsen. If I were to figure out how to add VSC/TRAC ECU + sensors from an '01-02 T4R, then with an AndyMod 2.0 or the Beto mod, I should be able to get the TRAC computer to stop wheel spin if I ever lift a wheel or put one wheel on a really slick surface. In post #27 of that thread, bwawuz02 posted a link to a video showing a T4R overcoming wheel spin with A-TRAC. He said that video gave him the idea for his 2nd gen traction beast. I'm exploring if this is possible with my 1st gen, and if so, how.

As an engineer, I find the Torsen differential design, fascinating: It is elegant in its simplicity. I find beauty in it's intermeshing gears. So... I may want beauty in my differentials.

And maybe TRAC to overcome lifted-wheel shortcomings of a Torsen-style differential, as the TrueTrac is.

Lastly, at this point I'm just asking questions about can I do this, or can I do that.

    Thx for the reply.

Well then I'm sure you'll have luck selling the e-locker on here.

    Found your problem.
Can’t fault anyone who takes responsibility.

I like the Trutrac and I think it is better solution for many people. I would wait until ECGS replies. They can answer more questions more accurately and likely offer a ready to install option.

Sahweet... a trade may be in the offing. I cannot commit to anything at this time, but I'll definitely keep a swap in mind.

Is it just the 3rd member, or does it have an axle housing (p/n 42110 in illustration of post #1 above) too?

Forgot to ask -- is that axle plumbed for ABS? Is it from a Taco or Tundra? Year?

Yes, has the openings for abs, came from a 1st gen taco, forgot the year, but I believe it was 03
