I work in a lime laboratory. My supply of vinegar is strong enough to cause chemical burns.

There’s not really anything wrong with it… it’s just that I’m not used to how the transmission is compared to the 2015 SR5 i had before. How it shifts and revs out shifts between gears is very different.

I thought that was something more for off-roading situations?

The Tacoma transmission does learn your driving habits over time. Also, try the many tunes that you can find out about on this forum, KDmaxx, ovtune, etc. (I heard KDmaxx is a highway orientated tune, not really for city driving) I don't have any tunes on my 21 since I think it's fine and I mostly drive country backroads/suburbs around 70kph. Also, tap the throttle gently when the truck is in a gear that's too high. If you wanna save gas, keep it around 110kph and revs below or around 2k. Other than that, a Tacoma is a Tacoma, it'll drive like a truck, not a Range Rover

My 20 mile commute is a bunch of stop and go, speeds range from 35-55 depending which section of road I am on. Experience none of the erratic shifting that some complain about. Actually shocked how smooth this truck is. Also don’t race from stop to stop either.

Now when I pull my dirt bike trailer there is a section of road out to the trail head that there are a bunch of rolling hills, if the cruise is on it will shift a bunch to maintain speed, but if I hit the ECT button it reduces that, or kick it off cruise then it barely shifts or at all.

It’s just new and different i suppose

You have to give it time to learn your driving habits. My 2020 was the same when i drove it home from the dealers delivery room. You need to resist using any of the S modes and ECT till you get over 1k miles on the truck, or you'll end up with a stupid shifting truck like some have here. Trust me if you do this it will get a whole lot better. Your going to think its a different truck after a few months.

I am going off a manual, yeah does take some time to get used to it. Has been pretty good from the get go, do drive slow though. Take off easy from stops, and ease into them. Seems like those who like to hammer and try to drive it like a sports car usually aren’t happy with it.
