So I put an indicator light in the cab for tailgate being down. I am going to put two led strips in the box wired to the same circuit so that when I open the tailgate the indicator comes on as well as the bed lighting. it's pretty straight forward. But I was just thinking. what about those rare times I want to leave the tail gate down, like when I put my snow machine in the back. I want to put a small switch in one of the cubbies that I can flip to disconnect the lights and indicator. right now the circuit terminates at a pin switch at the tailgate. it is a ground line only, so when the gate is closed the ground comes off and circuit goes out. my question is can I use that ground line to turn the circuit off ? as in a switched ground line ? I don't see why not but I'm not an electrical expert by any means. if that isn't clear I'll try to explain better

You can use the switch to break the ground connection. That will work. Just choose a toggle style switch or if you choose a push button you want one that is a closed circuit in its normal position.

I have one of these switches lying around. I was planning on just flipping the safety around so that it is usually open, and you have to open it to toggle it into the off spot.
