quick OME question!

    sorry if this is a stupid question, but on an old man emu suspension setup, how does the coil sit in the seat? is the flat part of the coil on the top and the rounded part on the bottom in the seat? or is the flat part on the bottom in the seat and the rounded part on the top?

    it's hard to tell which is which now that it's already installed. you can't see which end is rounded or flat because of how it is in the seat. is there any other way to tell?

    edit: it rides kind of stiff. not as bad as the spacers i had before, but still not so smooth. it takes bumps in the road a little better, but still rattles like crazy on dirt roads. is that just how it is supposed to ride? or should i be expecting a better ride than that?

    I'm running the Bilstein 5100s with the 885s and it rides great on and off road...not sure what the issues with your is man :eek:

    so the flat part sits down in the bottom of the cup and the round part is on the top? what can go wrong if this is installed upside down?

    yup...and it'll ride like shit I suppose because the coils aren't made to absorb like that...

    well maybe they are installed correctly. because it doesn't ride worse than the spacers at all, just not incredibly better. some of the old pot holes and rough spots in the road aren't as bad as they used to be, but some of them are about the same.

    yea the OME Coils are a pretty stout spring man so there gonna be a little stiff...I had a spacer lift before as well and I think the ride quality is about the same on the street but I really notice the quality improvement off road and going over large speed bumps etc...

    alright. maybe all is well then. i'll go out and check in the morning to see which side is up. it's just hard to tell with it sitting down in that cup. thanks

    yeah, if it's as bad as you say it would be, it wouldn't even be questionable whether it was wrong or not. i would know immediately. it's been on about a month now. it still hits this same rough set of railroad tracks and dirt road the same though. that's what had me wondering. but then again, those are probably the worst tracks in the county and that dirt road is really rocky. i guess i'd say the ride on those with the OME is somewhere between stock and spacers.

    If you are running OME shocks , the flat part of the coil is up , the OME spring perch is contoured to accept the run out ( non flat ) end of the coil.

    With OME coils and OME shocks , the flat part of the coil goes up .

    I sure hope so, cause I installed mine with the flat side UP...
    Stock were the same way, and makes since since flat part gives a level surface for the top plate.

    soooo.....flat part of the coil faces up? for those who said it should face up, how would i be able to tell which side is up and which is down? it is hard to tell because the cup covers the bottom and the top part is hard to tell also. other than taking it apart, how else would i know? are there any other obvious things that would lead me to believe so? and how can this harm my suspension?

    Then , yes , for sure the flat part of the coil should be at the top.

    If you look at the OME perch it is countoured to accept the run out ( non flat ) part of the coil , if this end is down it should be seated in the contour of the perch , if it is upside down , I think the coil would span over the contour .
