A local guy had an ARE shell that will fit my 08 CC. It's in almost mint condition (but the wrong color). He is asking $900 obo. Just trying to find out if that is a good price. egu3u9e6_c3fc17c99dbc937254d95154273c84577ac762db.jpg

The price is reasonable if it includes the mounting brackets, keys for lock, and wiring harness for the brake light. You have to decide if you are willing to run two-tone, or have a reasonable option for a repaint.

I am still holding out to find one in the right color for my own truck. In the right color, I'd spend that much.

How old is the shell? Is it carpeted inside? Also, look at the plastic flap that covers the tailgate, see how it bows out at each side? That's because the plastic that the rivits hold to is broken, it's a quick fix with a drill and 2 new rivits but that's grounds for negotiation. Personally, for a used shell, I think $900 for that shell is the higher side. Plus, if you plan on getting it color matched, you'll be right there with the price of a new shell. Unless you're desparate for a shell and don't mind the 2-tone, that's not an overly impressive deal in my opinion.

I paid $700 for mine used (I did get a good deal but it was off a 2005 so had some age but came with an interior light, LED brake light, wiring, brackets and a carpeted interior). Here's mine for comparison, it's an ARE MX series:

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll try to get him down to $700

That shell doesn't go over the plastic bed cap. It is a V series. You can buy it new from an ARE dealer for about $950 with interior carpet. RePainting is going to cost you $375. To me I turned the last one I saw down for $550. I was willing to pay $450, one big thing you lose on the used purchase is the warranty. I would buy new.

I know it is a case by case thing, but I got my silver ARE CX used for $300 (sliding rear windows, folding & sliding front window, carpeted, with mounting gear). Unless it is near brand new, might want to talk em down a bit.
