I'm wondering where do y'all go for quick over night or weekend camping trips that are local(ish). Any hidden spots or neat lakeside sites for a truck and a RTT?

My schedule is difficult (here for a military training ) and I only get 1-2 days off at a time currently, so would like to be able to get out while I can and when I can... Love hiking so any basecamp ideas/locations would be awesome

7 springs is always a good place to go. Its close and there's usually water there. Lake pleasant is a cool place to go to also. Lots of camping back there plus water is near by. For really good hiking check out lost Dutchman state park. You can camp there and hit all sorts of great trails. Check out firstwater trail it's a good one.

Can I truck camp? NONE of my camping gear is backpacker friendly aside from my hammock, but we're a little short of trees here lol.

Nope. Flat iron is the top of the Superstition mountain. Hell of a hike if you take Siphon draw to the top. You'll be sore the next day.

That's only a day hike. You just need plenty of water.

Go to Camp Verde and then to Beaver Creek campground. Hike to the V Bar V ranch then down to the petroglyphs. Lots of pottery on the ground out there. Just don't take any. Water is always flowing through that creek. Then check out Montezuma castle and the well. There's all sorts of Indian ruins around the Verde valley.
