They are short enough where all push functions work properly. I made the first pair weeks ago and they work fine. I tweaked the length for that very reason. Just make sure that they protrude approximately 1/16" above the face of the existing knob. They are very simple. You set them to not interfere. They are just rings that fit tightly over your knobs. Actually once you push the buttons all the way in the rings will be pushed out of the way. Then they are set.

Do these cover the little blue light behind the knobs?

Yes that is a bit of a trade off since it is roughly 1/8" thick. I really did not pay any attention to it until you asked. Tells you how much attention I pay to that little blue light. All 3 configurations I tried were larger than the existing knob so I really don't recall seeing that light in a couple of months. There still is the same gap behind the grip as the stock knob. I pulled the grip off mine and sure as heck when I adjusted the volume I accidentally changed the station. Stupid stock knobs. I am sure the silicone wedding rings are the same. I know it does not intrude on the vol graphic but can't remember if that lights up. If the light is that important to you I suggest buying the little Hondo Garage knobs that are smaller than the stock knobs. I will check it after the sun goes down. If the blue light is visible I will post a picture. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I don't want to make them any thinner since they work great as is.
