it's what you get for buying a first model lol. Isn't that like common knowledge, don't buy a first model if you aren't prepared for bumps.

My brother in law's dreaded 1st model year 03 4runner v6 is creeping toward 300k miles with a smooth shifting 4-speed and is holding up quite well running bottom of the barrel conventional oil.

You would have to be an idiot to compare mid 2000s toyota build quality to the Mexican made junk of today though. That's an apples vs naranjas comparison.

so you're basically calling me stupid. thanks for insulting me and many many other new 2016 Tacoma owners. Note: most 2016 Tacoma are very happy with their purchase (there is a poll that gives around >90% happy). glad I traded in my 2nd gen for this awesome new 3rd gen.

The 89, 95 and 05 models were also the first year rollout for the different trucks in the last 30 years, any evidence to support them being worse than the mid cycle years?

That's what I mean, all these fears about buying a first year vehicle are over inflated. I have another first year model car, 19 years old and still on the road, runs like a champ with no issues whatsoever.

I've upgraded it over years to some creature comforts of the mid cycle years but mechanically its still a 1st year gen and it's been extremely reliable.

However I'd contend that the 1st model year of the 3rd gen is experiencing more issues than the 2nd gen 1st model year. Time will tell...but I don't remember this many problems on the 2005. As we speak my truck is in the shop awaiting complete rear diff assembly replacement

According to the link I posted the 05 had 59 TSBs released but they would overlap later years too.

Have they determined why the diff failed yet?

Nope they're just using the good ol' fail-safe method of "throwing parts at problems"

I abandoned Chevy when I found out i couldn't get a brand new Z71 4x4 Colorado with a manual transmission. Can't have that shit. Went right to Toyota and ordered the 16' TRD OR with the 6 speed manual. I knew that day was inevitable. The midsized segment was my last hope for Chevy trucks. But I know what you mean by a lot better performance after about 4,000 miles give or take. The manual is also a bit noisy, clanking here and there when shifting, but it's a manual truck. That's normal. Everything else had been great! I've over all loved the truck since day one. Though I am a bit bias when it comes to anything manual. Love em' all!
