Hard to believe that a truck built with all the same parts can run anywhere from an absolute piece of crap to almost perfect. I would have expected those defects to affect the entire production run until the parts were changed.

As far as the downshifts, what do people expect? More speeds mean the range is more narrow so it will shift more. Don't want downshifts, get a CVT.

And what's this based on? Where's your proof to back it up? I'd say there's a fair concern if those of us who had low transmission fluid and ALSO had symptomatic transmissions have a legitimate gripe and cause for concern for premature wear and tear. I mean, a slipping transmission, not going into gear, clunking on downshifts, etc. is NOT normal and means something is wrong, and for many of us this meant low fluid. If it wasn't a problem those things wouldn't be happening.

Looking back most of the people telling us to stop bitching don't even own a 3rd Gen, they're just trolling in a forum for a truck they don't even own! Instead of people posting threads about telling us who actually own a 3rd Gen to stop bitching, how about you guys who have no place commenting here just stop wasting your time in the 3rd Gen forum and troll elsewhere.

I can guarantee that those of you acting holier than thou and judging everyone else would be doing the exact same thing if it was your truck that was having issues that were legitimate cause for concern and complaint, and if you're not and are totally fine with spending your hard earned money on a truck that has a legitimate issue then you're just one of the many fools on here who apparently have drank the Toyota Kool-Aid and are brainwashed by Toyota.

You automatic drivers deserve this. Learn to drive stick bitches.

Sorry, noticed the thread turned into a auto trans discussion and no manual fan boy had commented yet so i had to do it to make it a true transmission discussion thread.

Do you need to know, or care?
Another quote from the same movie, and pretty much sums it up for the tranny issues...

A new car built by my company leaves somewhere traveling at 60 mph. The rear differential locks up. The car crashes and burns with everyone trapped inside. Now, should we initiate a recall? Take the number of vehicles in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C. A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don't do one.

Or get the superior 4 or 5 speed auto transmissions that were on the 2nd gen, for less shifts and reliable operation.

If I have a problem with one of my vehicles I don't bitch about it on the internet because nothing is resolved, I bitch to the guy responsible for the warranty work. If that doesn't resolve it I bitch to his boss. If that doesn't work to his boss until I'm at the top of the dealership. If that doesn't work then the car or truck is sold and I get something else from a different dealership.

Its worked for me so far.
