Changed title to cease butthurt. I know these work for some but there's reasons why you should wait a month or so for the new ones.

If you have done your research even a little, no expert recommends running the 2nd gen 5100s on the 3rd gen.

    First post in following thread.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...2016-tacoma-presented-by-toytec-lifts.395798/

Also word from bilstein is they won't even be mounted the same. Word of mouth. Choose t to believe what you want.

So quit running the 2nd gen bilsteins if you care about ride quality! For fuck sakes.

There will be very little discernable difference. 5100s ride stiff on 2nd gens too

I think I'll listen to the guys developing suspensions but it's a free country.

Experts agree the 5100 is a low grade shock to begin with, so I doubt many of them care.

If you don't like em, don't run em. Worry about your own truck, not others.

That makes no sense as they mount just fine apparently and ever look at the 2nd and 3rd gen suspension, its pretty much the same, at least shock wise, the coil changed and UCA area, but that's about it.

They change a minute detail of the shock and then slap a new label on it..
So they can charge you more.

Exactly I'm pretty sure it mounts the same, maybe the valving or something is different to compensate for the different coils/weight between 2nd and 3rd but whoever told OP it dosent mount correct is very wrong. 5100s have always been a cheap way to lift and yes they aren't the greatest shock, mine leaked on 2 of my tacos, but they work and its a truck. But thanks for posting wrong information OP. Who cares, run what you want. Spacers are crap, but people run those.

I think people unaware of the differences should be made aware. If people still want to run them then I couldn't give two shits. But people should at least be informed. Or is that to invasive in others forum lives?

Please inform us as to why they are not compatible? Again the suspension is almost unchanged between gens. They clearly mount fine as many guys run them no issues or modifying needed.

The spring rate is different, but that dosent mean they wont mount correctly as you mentioned, so yes you are ignorant/incorrect. They are adjustable, so yes maybe don't run them on the recommended clip setting for 2nd gens, but you can still run them.

I agree with you, but your thread title is not something like "be aware 2nd gen 5100s have issues on 3rd gens" , so I can see why people get their shorts in a knot because it sounds a little more than simple informing.

...Me, I'm just here 100% satisfied with my TRDOR take-offs on my SR. Cheap as hell and does the trick for a stock ride height.

You're an idiot, lots of guys that have them on, they mount the same as before, the spring rate changed meaning you cant run the same clip setting as before. So yes your post is ignorant.

Guy could be full of shit. Who knows. But just because the mounting point is slightly different doesn't mean the old ones won't work.
