    Hey all,

    Finally quit smoking after 1 pack/day for 10 years. It will be 3 weeks tomorrow since I quit cold turkey. Really stoked to be saying this, and wasn't sure I would ever be able to.

    It feels really good. I can already breathe better, and my taste buds are starting to get their senses back.

    I did get some nicorrete gum just in case I needed it, but so far have not touched it.

    For anybody who is considering quitting smoking, it really is true that once you are ready and willing to quit, it isn't really that bad. Sure, I get urges all the time, and probably will till the day I take my dirt nap. The urges have become less frequent and less gnarly.

    I've come this far, no way in hell am I picking up another cig. Will be tough though next time I'm in Vegas.

    After working on the truck all day there is nothing like a cold beer and a smoke while BBQing a burger.. I wish you luck.

    Cold turkey is the way to go! I quit the first time 8 years ago after a pack a day habit.
    Went through a bad spell in my life in 2010 and started up again.
    Quit cold turkey 3 months ago

    I don't miss it at all!

    dang man, I had a friend who quit cold turkey. still says that the best way to quit is decide to quit one day and stop cold turkey.....worked for him

    It's all in your head.. If you don't wanna smoke, you won't. Good job and keep up the good work! , I hate seeing people waste money on cigs.

    I stoped cold turkey. I was up to a pack and a half in a day, sometimes two.
    I smoked for about 17 years. Best thing I ever done.. Glad the OP is alive and well as all of us EX - are.

    Awesome man . I've tried to quit before . I've done 5 months then I went out drinking and started back up. One of these days I'll quit for good .

    I just had to change the behaviors that make me smoke more...basically going to bars and coffee.

    Yea the hard part for me was getting a new 'routine'. I would always go outside to do whatever (work on truck, tinker with the bikes, just go outside, take a break at work, etc.) and it became part of the experience to smoke while doing it.

    Learning to still do those things without a smoke was a little difficult at first, and not knowing what to do with myself, but as everybody says, it gets easier with time.

    Not sure if it was due to quitting smoking, but I got a crazy migraine a couple days ago, and had to take the following day off from work as my noggin was in rough shape. That really sucked. Migraines seem to run in my family, but I have not had one in about 3-4 years.

    Of course the main reason I quit was because of me, but as was said by Idaho, part of doing this was definately because of my wife and best friend (who both don't smoke). I hated to be around them knowing I stunk like shit. I hated the thought of them taking care of me or feeling bad for me if I ever got cancer (crossing fingers I never do) or talking through a caner cazoo.

    Remember there is a difference between stopping and quitting. I stopped a few times, then in 2010 I quit for good. Quitting is when you can look back 5-10 years down the road and be honest with yourself and say, I have not smoked since that day. I'm almost at 2 years now and it was the best thing I've ever done.

    I just quit 2 days ago, i'm using an E-cig, not the best way to quit but it helps alot. I tried cold turkey a couple times but there is too many factors that make it hard. 1. i have little will power over my own addictions. 2. I'm on a ship and god it seems like the only way to pass the time is to smoke. 3. My wife also smokes and her will power is as good as mine. So 3 days ago we finally made the commitment to find an alternative and quit for good together. I know its only been a couple days but i'm feeling pretty good about it.

    Congrate Coupe, for quiting too! Hang in there and stay strong. It gets easier with time.

    Like Idaho said, be careful with the eCig. One reason I didn't want to use the gum was becuase in my mind I would still be getting nicotine, and would be kind of fooling myself into thinking I was quiting.

    Well if i smoked and wanted to quite this is what i would want to do and i think would be cool to see how much cash you toss...so around here in SC lets say on average a pack of cigs cost around $5. so you should get a jar and put $5 or however much you paid. save it up for a whole year. When the 365 th day comes around get your jar look at that almost 2 grand. then spend it on something for your truck. I have always had this idea but i dont smoke so cant test it out.

    Congrats to you and all those who can stay away from it. I was never a smoker however if you are trying to quit or thinking about it I will share this with ALL OF YOU please take it to heart. When I was 39 (9 years ago) I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer and given 1-3 years to live. Here I am 9 years later still going, my point is; do what you can for yourself and your family at all costs to avoid sitting in a doctors office and hearing the words I did.     Congratulations to all who have quit! I quit 15 yeears ago using the Nicorette gum. Best decision I ever made. Look at the money you'll save by not smoking!

    Thanks again everybody for the support! It really helps to have this around.

    This is how much money I am now saving that I used to spend every day (not just cigs):
    1 pack of smokes $4 - $7
    Going out to lunch (now make it) $10
    Starbucks (sometimes 2 a day) $4 - $8
    Paying top dollar for a sixer every other day
    instead of looking for a deal $5
    Total saved per day $23 - $30

    Damn, I am now saving $30/day in being smarter with my dough. Shit, no wonder I was so broke before.
