I was a heavy smoker for 10 years. I quit last year and haven't looked back!! I used Chantix. I swear by it, though it's not for everyone.

I smoked for 11 years and tried to quit several times but finally just decided one day after I finished my last pack that it will be it and no more. Its been 6 months since my last smoke and it does feel much better waking up in the morning and not dying on my 2-3 mile daily morning runs.

I don't have much advice because I've never been in your shoes, I'll just tell you how I quit!

Get on a dirt bike, hit a wall at 50mph, end up in hospital with 4 broken vertibrea, two ribs, pelvis, collar bone, wrist, contusion, and two punctured lungs. Come to a couple weeks later a non smoker! No craving or hacking. Works wonders!

I also quit about 7 months ago, cold turkey. Recently though, I started occasionally smoking again, bummin off friends when I have a few drinks ... darn things go hand and hand!!

some of this, a little of that

Yeah I had to lay off the beer for a while when I first quit, now no problems :D. I really do like the nicotine patches I guess it just took a few tries to get it right.

The patches gave me circular rashes...funk that.

16 years of smoking here (but I vowed not to buy another pack, when I polished off my last pack after lunch today). Anyway, about 2 years ago I began cutting back on the cigs by dipping...now I'm planning on weaning myself off of the dip (sort of...I just bought a fresh log about 2 hours ago; but still, I'll make it last).

    I'm a f'ing mess...:(

My wife quit cold turkey last month.....she had to have two stents put into her heart at the young age of 40. She was a pack a day smoker for 20 years.

A guy here at work smoked for almost 30 years. He tried everything to quit, and accupuncture was the method that worked for him.
