I’d probably be in for a set. Looks like nice work, OP. Glad to see a 1st gen specific set.

Maybe I missed it, but is the pricing listed anywhere in this thread?

    Good teamwork! @DukesTaco

It's a community effort around here lately, I've been so busy making tooling and filling orders.
I'm just about caught up with all the tooling. So I will have more TW time.

They were designed to be as small as possible and still get the job done. That was/is the problem with other bump stops on the market, they are to big and interfer with the shocks dampening early in the suspensions up-stroke. Cant wait to hear what you think once you have a chance to try them out!

I just posted a video of one of my bump stops in action on my website. Have a look, you can see how they work. toyotabumpstops.com

Well it took me a little longer than I expected but work and honey do lists get in the way of play .
Here is a write up on the Bump stops made by Curtis aka @Plastics Guy .
Here is a side by side picture of the stock rock hard bump stop of a 2nd Jen Tacoma followed by the first then the second and finally the third prototype .IMG_20180802_143551369.jpg

As you can see the first was too short the second was better but the compression rate of the rubber was to fast or soft( I don't know the proper term but Curtis knows his rubber) . The third prototype was the right blend of rubber durometer and size.

Below is a picture of the second prototype Under full load and the shock removed. As you can see the bump stop compresses all the way down to one inch but was too distorted for Curtis is liking.
    IMG_20180710_170621524.jpg IMG_20180710_170535297.jpg

As soon as I sent these pics to Curtis he called me back and said I am making another set that will be firmer that that set . We spoke for a while and during that discussion is when I realized the knowledge that he has about rubber compounds and the passion that he has to bring a good quality product to the Toyota community .
Below is a picture of the 3rd prototype. It compresses down to 2 inches full load shock removed. At full load it keeps a perfect shape.IMG_20180802_144005092.jpg IMG_20180802_143821770.jpg

I did a little testing on these and could not feel the bump stops hitting the lca. That is until I got out and checked . I had put chalk on my lca platform to verify contact and they did hit but I felt nothing on the cab . The test consisted of a 40 to 60 mph through a G-out . Well to my surprise there was some compression and then some uncompression. I was not planning on it but a little air time was achieved. Below is a pic of the contact made by the bump stops and a video of the test run. IMG_20180706_162120371_BURST000_COVER_TOP.jpg

So far supper satisfied and can't wait to get to testing the rear bump stops. Great job Curtis .

These instructions should be in the first post so they are easy to find. :notsure:

How to install your bump stops:
Step 1: Remove old bumps located at rear of LCA with channel locks.

Step 2: Take a scraper and clean any mud/ debris from the LCA.

Step 3: Drop provided bolt into the new front bump stops and coat the threads with Loctite thread locker provided in the mounting kit.

Step 4: Install new bump stops in factory location with supplied flange bolt using a 14mm deep socket. The notch in the casting should be facing the wheel. Tighten the bolt to 30 inlb.

Step 5: Repeat on the other side.

Please Note: Bump stop is designed to replace the rear bump stop on the LCA only. The front OEM bump stop on the LCA will remain in place.

So I got mine installed today (Thanks again @Plastics Guy ).

The initial impressions are quite good. They appear very well made and they fit nicely in my stock ish suspension set up. I ended up using a chisel and hammer to gently tap the old ones counter clockwise which was a lot easier than trying to use a vice/ socket/wishes to remove them. Plus I had nothing else to try. Probably a good 5 taps and they broke loose. Easily could install them with the wheels on but I took them off.

On the street, I notice a little bit of an improvement, nothing terribly drastic even over rough pavement. Looking forward to testing them off road.

This is a Easy Easy job
    They work great, Great product
I have a stock suspension so the bumpers are pretty close to frame after installed.

Did a panic stop and locked up all 4 wheels and the front end did NOT drop down hard the way it used too. Happy camper.
Now have to do the diff bushings today.
Here is what to do for 5 minute job per side

Jack up one side of truck to where tire clears the ground
Turn steering wheel all the way to lock position to one side to access REAR bumper stop
DO NOT have to remove tire
DO NOT have to remove tie rod or tie rod parts
Chanel locks to remove the stock bumper
    Clean the surface
No rust issues so I’m lucky
    Loctite glue
    Thread new bumper bolt on
Line up the bumper stop in the correct direction
Deep socket and extension, Thread and torque

Would there be any advantage for a set of these designed for the front along with the ones you make now that are for the rear?
I really like the fact that these are flexible and absorbing characteristics qualities
    almost like mini shocks

    Hey John,

My rear bump stops are made using Dual Durometer rubber. Meaning that the bump stop is made with two different types of rubber. The initial 30% of the bump stop is a soft rubber that deadens the initial impact under hard hits, the mid section of the bump stop is a fairly firm rubber. This combination of rubber seems to be the secret sauce in keeping the rear of the truck planted and stable when hitting G-outs, ruts, speed bumps or whatever. There is nothing on the market even close to this. For now anyways...

So in comparison to the "Mini shock" characteristics. The Rear bump stop will act very similar in its dampening abilities and in a way will act like mini shocks. If you would like to try out the rear bumps once they are ready let me know and I will give you special pricing so you not paying retail AND if you don't end up liking them for any reason you can mail them back to me for a FULL refund.

    Curtis,
