If we take into account all of the races that happen in this world every year, the number of deaths is very low. Racing has become very safe over the years. Sometimes there are just strange accidents and the end result is terrible. Very sad to lose such a talented young racer. Being injured or killed is a risk we all take every time we throw a leg over a bike. A sad sad day in the sportbike world. Godspeed

With most of us that have been involved with motorcycle racing by either participated in or watched for a while, when you first see it, it's like, "Damn that's going to hurt in the morning." Then hearing that he died....It's just horrible. It is such a rare occurance because I have seen worst accidents and racers came out okay. It's just such a shock.

As a huge fan of MotoGP, it's been a really dark day. I was hoping to see a good race at the Sepang circuit but instead just a tragedy involving one of the youngest and brightest stars of the MotoGP series. Eerily reminiscent of the S. Tomizawa crash in Moto2 last year. Always exciting, super fast, Super Sic...Rip #58.

About the best photo angles I have been able to find:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/ot...o-Simoncelli-dead-Malaysian-MotoGP-crash.html

Dave Despain had a pretty good summary of the events here:

    http://www.speedtv.com/video/moto-racing/motogp-despain-on-simoncelli-1233893984001/1#_vtop

Overall, this is a sad day in racing... I wasn't necessarily a "Sideshow Bob" fan but I really liked his (sometimes over-) aggressiveness. After all is said and done I really kind of wonder where Colin Edwards head is at after Peter Lenz got hit at Indy last year (a young rider he was very close to) and now himself being involved in this. Also, Valentino Rossi and Simoncelli were very good friends in and out of the paddock so I'm sure his head is pretty well smoked right now also.

    RIP #58

This picture of the incident sends chills through me...I'm not sure if it's because I know the outcome or just knowing/seeing Valentino's bikes front wheel deflecting like that and seeing Colin Edwards coming over the bars after the hit...either way...I've seen enough shit on track personally but this.......fuck!

I woke up yesterday anticipating a good race from one of my favorite circuits, then I started seeing the news. Terrible. A bad lowside leaving no course of action for Colin and Vale. I knew that it was very very serious as soon as I saw Vale hit Marco's head and his helmet off. I immediately thought about the Craig Jones incident in SBK.

    RIP :(
