With summer on the horizon I think it's time once again to pull from the incredible wealth of knowledge that is TacomaWorld.

    What does everyone think?

I have slept in the bed of my truck under a cap for years. Platform and without a platform. Lately I have been considering a roof top tent (RTT). I have my opinions on the advantages/disadvantages of either setup. But I want to know what you all think...

    Please weigh in, thank you!

Doesn't look like there are many opinions on this. Fwiw, i have a shell and am looking at adding a roof top tent to it.

I will add my .02 cents worth.

I had an extended cab with a shell and sleep platform. There was not a lot of room in it, nor very comfortable, and kind of a pain to get in and out of. The one thing it really excelled at was "stealth camping". If I was on a long trip and wanted to sleep in a rest area, truck stop, or hotel parking lot all I had to do was quickly jump in the back and close it up. No one was the wiser that I was asleep back there.

I now have a double cab w/ a short bed that rules a camper shell and sleep platform out. I have since bought a RTT. The RTT is more comfortable, better ventilated, more room, and works better every where except for the sneaking camping. It also take a short time to set up versus the camper shell sleeping.

There are times that I wish I had the shell back but that is very rare.

Ive got the short cab and at 6' sleeping n the back is no option
My last pickup had the shell with a sleep platform that worked out well even "stealth sleeping".
Just bought some 1 3/4 tubing today and plan on bending it tomorrow and welding it to place my RTT thats been sitting in the garage after selling the FJ.
Looking forward to climbing back into it, Once u go RTT theres no going back.
