Sid the forum search, did a Google search. Not getting clear answers in those searches.

    2002 D-Cab 4wd Limited V6. 6 inch fabtech lift.

What years of Tacoma are the rack and pinions interchangeable?

Under hard braking the front tires toe in and skid on the road. Putting it in reverse fixes it

On the video I see the pass wheel turned left while driver side stays straight. That means you have a problem on pass side suspension parts and if anything in the steering rack is wrong it would be inner tie rod (I doubt as it would rather clunk around than doing that what I see). Check your pass side all suspension parts and joints immediately. It is extremely dangerous to drive with what you have now.

The drivers side will do it as well, just did not do it as noticible in this video. When we did it in asphalt essentially it left skid marks on the road with both tires, thus wearing down the inside tread on both tires. As for driving it, this was only to help in actually seeing what it was doing, won't put anyone at risk with it lile this. I will double check the fabtech stuff, as well as have the p.o. ta

The same will apply to the driver side. Rack and pinion is just that: one solid rack connects both wheels and pinion moves the rack side to side. If both wheels would move together while steering wheel is not, than you may complain about rack and pinion problems. If wheels can move independently changing the toe-in then suspension parts or connecting rods can be blamed.

When I wrote "extremely dangerous" I did not mean "driving style like on the video" but I meant "driving the truck". Suspension failure is no joke. The only time it is not that dangerous is if it breaks when the truck is not moving at all (assuming nobody is under the truck at that time). Otherwise failure at any speed is dangerous to everybody on the road and very expensive to repair.

Buddy had a rack and pinion out of a 99 Tacoma. About a 2 banana job. Took about two hours to do the swap. Making sure the steering wheel was aligned in the end is what took a bit of time otherwise an 1 1/2 hours is doable. After replacing the rack and pinion, fluid flush and test drive it is working like a dream. All fixed!!!! Now to get an alignment and tire rotatuon.
