    Hello everyone,
I have a 2009 Tacoma 4.0 with 160k miles on it. The vehicle was involved in a collision earlier in the year on the front passenger side. ( Hit by a driver under the influence of drugs and alcohol, he tried to escape until his car was no longer operable). After getting the truck back from the body shop I noticed an oil spot in the driveway. It appeared to be coming from the rack and pinion.
I took the vehicle to another shop for an evaluation, they said the rack and pion needed to be replaced. Is this leak normal for our trucks with the age and mileage or possibly the collision could have caused damage to make it start leaking? Prior to the accident I did not notice any leaks. Thanks for your input!

once the rack leaks, it will need new seals and guides or replace whole thing

drop down the sway bar and drop trans mount for clearance
get a hose kit too since the HP hose usually rusts to the pipe
steering shaft replace while in there

My plan is to get the whole thing replaced, the auto body shop that did the initial work will take a look at it again and see if it was caused by the accident. My thought was since it is only leaking from the side that was involved in the accident, it could possibly have caused it. Drive side that’s is no leak.
