Recently had to have my rack and pinion replaced on my 2017 after about 36000 miles. Kind of surprised it went out so soon. Haven't done any crazy wheeling. Is this a common part to have the seals bust every 35000 miles? Part of me suspects it may have gotten busted from a bad alignment when they forgot to tighten the lower bolts and my truck would suddenly swerve hard to the left when breaking. I drove it a few weeks under that condition til the cause of swerving was discovered after multiple visits to mechanics. Or is the rack and pinion a weak part on Tacomas? Edited to add the alignment was shortly after a 2.75 inch lift and adding 33 inch tires. Maybe that caused more wear?

Rack and pinions are a weak point of all Tacomas, for sure. By the looks of your profile picture flexing, this isn't a street only truck.

Could be from the loose bolts. To answer your question, no it's not normal for a Tacoma to need a rack at 35k miles.
