I've a got leak in my rack and pinion system and the whole thing needs to be replaced. Mechanic told me to do that the engine needs to come so it's gonna cost me a lot more money. Does anyone know if the engine coming out is true or am getting scammed. This is on a 2018 trd sport

Had mine replaced last year and the engine does not need to come out. Go to someone else for an inspection and quote.

I had mine done at the stealership three years ago. They did not pull the engine. It only took them 4 hours.

Run away from this mechanic OP! They are either lying to you in order to fleece you with a massive bill. Or they have no idea what they are talking about. Either way I would get a few more quotes from reputable indy shops before moving forward.

It doesn't have to come out but official method of replacing does require lifting the engine a bit. If you chop one of the bolts and reinstall it inverted you can just barely do it without lifting the engine any, allegedly. It's not the same as 2nd gen, which is very easy I think.

Had it done twice once on my 09 around 100k and that was around 650.
On my 16 around 110k it went up to I wanna say 1300.
