Yes, I searched and I did a google search too. Didn’t find “exactly” what I was looking for so I’ll ask.
2012 taco, long travel, 35” tires. I just noticed that when the truck stopped, engine running, I get about a 1/3 turn of the steering wheel in either direction then it hits a wall and feels like it’s manual steering. When rolling it’s better (obviously) but now I’m noticing at low rolling speeds like in parking lots, turning and using the brakes (to park), it’s getting worse. Like the steering turns super easy into the parking spot, then use a little brake to slow down and the power steering stops. So here’s my questions, is this typically what happens when the rack in these trucks goes out? There’s no leaks, no noise, no play, plenty of fluid. 75% of the time steering is great and easy. Second question, other than a modified Tundra rack, IF I have to replace this current rack, is there anything I can do or available to strengthen or beef up the factory rack at all?

That sounds like an issue with the pump not putting out enough pressure. But it could also be a rack issue as well

You don't buy a truck for its fucking fenders!
    2.5" lift w/35's
If the rack isn't leaking, the power steering pump is probably getting worn out

Edit: the rack could also be leaking internally.

Where would I see leaking? Because there’s no fluid loss that I can tell and nothing under the truck

My truck does the same. It's on 305s. If I rev it up a few hundred RPM over idle it'll turn the tires just fine though, even at a dead stand still. Makes me think its a pump issue?

Ive had my rack go out with no leaking. I went through 4 tacoma racks while on 35s. Now i have a tundra rack. I can go full side to side at a dead stop.

Hm, maybe. The rack “seems” fine...

Sounds like I need to find out if I have a rack or pump issue

The pump is cheaper. swap that first.

That's how my pump was more than likely the pump. Doesn't mean you won't/aren't having rack issues also. Tacoma racks are pretty weak especially for wheeling and big tires.
