ok, I managed to get the high pressure hose loose....but now I'm stumped, the blasted thing is solid (duh on me), so how do you spin the nut out without twisting the hose all to heck!

I can get the other hose off farther up as I had to replace this one winter, simple hose clamp fitting made it easy.

Going to have to take the no 2 shaft off complete from the top. I have it marked and measured and broke free (sliding).

    what a PITA!

you sure it doesn't spin? maybe its just stuck and you need to break it lose to turn? otherwise take the other end of the hose off so you can spin it

I have rarely if ever seen a hose connection that doesn't have a nut that turns to tighten it

no that was the question....did it. (poorly worded mind you, I was beyond flustered at that point).

Well I found the answer out, it does, and I managed to bend the pressure side slightly. Enough I can see a very slight deform at the flange. Toyota had a new set up for 525!!! holy crap!

As it stands I'm going to swap it out with a master pro and hope I don't screw my self when we hit -50 this winter. That's the main concern now with the added bend to it. I doubt the old one would leak under normal conditions. When the uber cold hits I have a sneaking suspicion it will. Either way I'd rather swap it out than find out laying on the road at crazy cold temps.

I found helpful for access to the hydro nuts at the rack was to pull the frame bolts for the hydro lines. There's one on the drivers side frame rail and another on the front cross bar. Come through the wheel well as if doing the oil filter, 12mm box to break, rachet to loosen. A socket up front, made quick work. With the rack bolts removed, you can pull the hole rack back and down enough to reach easily those two nuts.

The coupling is stuck on the old rack (no 2 intermediate). blasted rust! GRR! I doubt this was ever changed. She's got 245k on it I had to take the upper bolt out and slide it off the splines. Took a little pb to break it loose. The bottoms being a pig. Any tips on popping it off so I can reuse this instead of buying a new one?

Any tips to getting the new rack aligned left and right the same as the old one? I have the old marked, and did take some measurements. Steering wheel was tied off before I removed anything.

I saw on tv they showed you move it full left and full right and measure each side full in and full out lengths (they may be different lengths) then the key is to put it in centered in its travel and make sure the steering wheel is held straight so everything lines up ok.

the rest, my rule of thumb is not to fight stuck rusty crap, I just replace it and tell myself if I ever need to remove it again its well worth what it cost to replace it
