Ok so I went to get an alignment yesterday after changing my inner and outer tie rods and wheel bearings. Both my wheels have about an inch of slop and you can see the slop is coming from inside where the inner tie rods bolt to. But the inners are tight. IIt hin this means it's time for a new rack.. also have a small power steering leak so that's yet another sign..it's a 4wd so my question is how big of job is it? Got a new frame a few years back so hopefully the 2 bolts that hold it in are turned upside down for easy removal by Toyota when they did the frame. Pretty straight forward job? Any tips?

I don't know. But please let me know.
As my truck seems to have constant pull to the left.
Alignment is perfect. Local shop says it is my rack going out?

I honestly don't know how to diagnose it myself.
But I've had it aligned 3 different times. And no one can get it to stop pulling left.

Here’s a write-up on replacing the steering rack bushings. I’d suggest putting poly bushings in the new rack before you install it. Last post in this thread describes my feelings on this job.

Take your time, remove the outer tie rod ends when you go to remove the rack, it will make the rack much more maneuverable. If your bolts haven’t been flipped (luckily, mine were) then there is a suggestion to cut one side (AC side) and replace later with new.

Check/replace your intermediate steering shaft while it’s out. Now’s the time to do it if it’s not been done already. Mine was in great shape still, no play and no binding so I packed the joint with grease and wrapped in a bicycle tube.

Anyway, the procedure is the same so here ya go. It’s a crappy job.

You’re welcome! I replaced my rack, the bushings, power steering lines, and “serviced” the intermediate shaft. The new rack went in much easier than the old one came out.
