Radar detector hardwire - easy instructions.

I did this last week and it looks great. I have a Magellan GPS with DVR and it powers it easily.

I just hardwired my 2015 Tacoma (entune without navigation) with a radar detector. It turns on and off automatically with the ignition and I mounted it to the rear view mirror so it is no longer suction-cupped to the windshield. The main reason I did this last part is because over time the suction cups eventually fail, especially in the winter and when going off road. It also allows me to use a sun shade in the summer without the hassle of the unit interfering.

The radar detector was wired exactly as demonstrated in the previous thread. The only difference is that my truck doesn't have the fancy electronic rearview mirror. When I got into the headliner I noticed that it came pre-wired for the fancy mirror though. At the end of the wires there is a factory harness with a blank adapter that is connected to nothing. All you have to do is wire your detector into the blank wire ports as shown in my photo. As for the rearview mirror mount, I used a hose clamp, a piece of angle bracket leftover from a wood working project and the mount that came with the detector. I sprayed them black with plasti-dip to match the interior and that's all there is to it.

Just updating this thread. I just used this same method to install a Passport 9500ix in my 2015 TRD Sport. The unused wiring bundle for the non-existent overhead electronic console is still hidden up there by the factory behind the sunglass holder. As shown in the pics above, green wire for switched power, white wire for ground. There is a third (red) wire that you do not use.

Having done this installation on a number of vehicles, the install on this Tacoma was by far the easiest and fastest.

Just an updated FYI, the plug still exists on 2014 Base (with no autodim or compass mirror). Just wired in my Valentine.

So awesome, I was wondering if I could wire my V1Gen2 since I also have a 2014 without a compass/thermometer mirror. Thank you so much.
