    Seconding @Unchained 5150 here...

Maybe I'm coming from a place of ignorance, since I live in VA and these have been illegal since forever, but - are these even useful today (seriously curious)? I thought most LEOs used laser these days, and unless you're jamming you're just getting notified of your ticket.

Ahaha. They still have them and definitely still make them. Escort makes great quality ones and guarantees them. I still have one and it has saved me some money. Usually when you hear the ring of the rare laser though. It’s too late. But they use the Ka bands still for the most part.

Throughout the Midwest it’s still radar for the most part. Usually I don’t run into laser unless they are trying to meet their quota or it’s a holiday / special enforcement day.

I guess I am just old. I agree with @Unchained 5150 more than likely any warning comes too late to matter.

I keep it no more than 7 over or stay with the flow of traffic. The flow on US1 in my area is typically 10 or more over the posted limit, unless there is rain.

Lite drizzle = 50% or less than the posted limit:annoyed:

Blinding rain (on 95 or the tp) = Hazards on treat is like a school zone but swerve when possible to alert other drivers to the falling rain. :bananadead:
Blinding rain (in the city) = Turn on hazards and drive typically 15+ over :burnrubber:  :crapstorm:

The other guys in FL know what I am talking about.

@Unchained 5150 they are useless on highways where laser is ran. I use my hidden 9500ix daily. I don’t speed much but it keeps me aware of cops especially in shore towns where I live, NYC where I work, etc. for $308 I paid 3 yrs ago it’s been a lifesaver. Also NJSP runs XA radar in thier vehicles. When it goes off I know to keep my eyes open for a cop on the side of the road. Also tells where speed cams and red light cams are. So, many uses and a good investment that I’m sure pays for itself.

He’s worried that he’ll get caught by a speed camera, but I wouldn’t:

I love my 9500ix and has saved me more times than I can count. What kit is that?

Haven’t seen speed trap cameras here in the West, just red light ones. All our speed cops use laser. Not much you can do about those, even the silly people who used to hang CD’s on their rear view mirrors believing they’d help stopped doing that, too.

There are no speed trap cameras in Texas that I’ve seen. Hardly any cops around here use laser, mostly just K and KA bands. On flat ground, my Passport radar detector can give me a warning from over a mile away.

You bet they still work for ya. A good detector combined with Waze really keeps you on your toes. My Uniden only set me back two hundred and change and it picks up signals so far out it's amazing. Plus it'll tip you off near red light cameras and has gps so you can memory-mute crappy door openers and such you pass by frequently.
    Hard wiring is next.

I have been using the Valentine 1 since 1999, been upgraded three times and it has been the best investment for me, as I drive on the faster side.

Laser isnt used that much out here in the mountains of Colorado. Radar can easily be picked up miles ahead while the LOE is popping other cars.

Valentine 1. Probably had one for 20 yrs. Keep getting it updated. Turn off X band. Rejects false k as in door openers and all the new stupid k band vehicle radars. I move it vehicle to vehicle. Drive the speed limit I mean 5 UP in towns. In NYS they hit you with laser twice to verify. Slow down on the first alert and get slowed down for the second shot and a third shot. No problem. I also run the 9500ix and it has saved me more times than I can count. Been an amazing tool for me over the years. Locally from what I understand they need to hit you twice with the laser just to verify. I stomped my brakes once to avoid a ticket on a laser reading; enough so that I smoked my brakes. The cop laughed and shook his finger at me.

Most cops run Ka band locally though where as some still run K.

Don't see why people wouldn't run it, I can get readings from 1-2 km away.

I'm not sure if mine goes fast enough to get a speeding ticket :annoyed: Speed limits in the northwest are 70-80 MPH on the interstates. I'm good with that. On the state roads with a 60 MPH speed limit, you can bet on radar traps in the small towns and nowhere else. But good on ya for a clean instillation.
